Two hours of work dissappeared. Where did it go?

  • Unknown's avatar

It seems wordpress was not autosaving for 2 hours, and altho I was online, the browser (M/FF) history is not showing all my page previews (I use that option a lot because I can’t visualize it otherwise) for the 2 hours either – it’s like all traces have vanished.

I was working on the best post ever and don’t even remember all the great stuff I wrote

How can it be retrieved? Where did it go?

What’s the address of the blog you are referring to?

There seem to have been server issues too.

So somewhere between the server, the browser, and WordPress, I lost 2 hours of really good work.

Is there any way to retrieve it? I kept opening “preview page” and the updates were showing on that, but they are not in my browser history and there aren’t any auto-saves and I don’t remember if I did any manual saves, if I did, they aren’t there.

    Sorry, I didn’t see your question, it’s https://lindasepp.wordpress.com

There are several post drafts at https://lindasepp.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft&post_type=post . Is one of those the post you were looking for? What was the title?

It’s the most recent one, Part 2,

I was just checking browser history again, and all the WordPress page previews and revisions there are missing too, but the other sites I visited to gather info are showing up there, just the wordpress stuff is missing.

The last save for the post shows 23:59 (which would be an hour off from my time since I have daylight savings time here)

My “crash” happened just before 3 my time (so 2am WP time) and I couldn’t restore the llst work I had done – what’s there now is probably 25 revisions old.

I’ve checked and you’re correct. The last post revision was at 23:59 and there are no other revisions. Currently there’s not much I can do to change this, though I recommend using the [Save draft] button every once in a while.

It’s possible that something went wrong while creating or editing the post because I found a post of yours with the same title in trash: https://lindasepp.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=trash&post_type=post . The duplicate posts doesn’t contain any content and there are no revisions to restore.

The duplicate in the trash is what came up when I was able to get back online after my browser crashed. It had nothing in it but the title.

I don’t remember if I hit “save draft” at all while I was working. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t.

What I find so odd about this is that there is no record in my browser history or in wordpress autosaves of the 2 hours of work I put into building and writing the post.

That’s certainly odd. Because there’s no browser history it looks like something might went wrong on your machine. If you want you can try out a different browser like: http://google.com/chrome

    Thanks.

I remembered at one point I added a 2nd photo that I’d copy/pasted (instead of downloading and uploading) from a pdf file. When I hit “preview” (in another tab) the whole post was empty.

I went back to edit and tried preview again with the same results. When I removed that 2nd photo, the post showed up again in preview.

It’s possible that from that time on nothing was saved or showed up.

    But that is still strange.
