Two of my followers aren't receiving email notifications and I can't delete them

    I have two users following my account that are not getting the email notifications that another ‘edition’ of the blog is ready for viewing. I have deleted them and attempted to re-add them but I get a response that the users are already following the blog, yet they don’t appear in the list of addresses following the blog. Can you help me delete the users so they can be sent another invitation and – hopefully – fix the missing notification problem.
    I have no desire to delete my blog as the blog is working just fine for the other users. Also, the users email addresses are not WordPress IDs as far as I know.

    Can you let me know the email addresses or usernames of the two users you’re referring to?

    I’m an employee of Automattic (the company that owns WordPress.com).

    Just a note, if you post an email address to this forum, it will appear as “redacted”, but it will be accessible to staff members.

    I don’t like putting my friend’s and family’s email addresses out in clear text. Perhaps you can delete them after you are finished The three email addresses that are problematic are:

    (email visible only to moderators and staff)
    (email visible only to moderators and staff) and/or (email visible only to moderators and staff)

    (email visible only to moderators and staff) received the first couple of posts and nothing afterward.

    attempting to add (email visible only to moderators and staff) returns (email visible only to moderators and staff) as already following

    Hi Dan! Jeremey’s out for a few days, so I thought I’d step in here. :)

    I checked our email logs for those three email addresses. In our logs I see emails successfully sent to ‘randy’ and ‘karin’ for your May 8 post. I do not see any subscriptions or accounts associated with ‘bula’.

    It sounds like you’re getting an error when you try to add ‘bula’ as a follower. Can you grab a screenshot of that error for me and upload it to your Media Library?

    Good morning,

    Thanks for pitching in. Actually bula is an unwanted account so if it did exist I’d ask you to delete it. Karin and randy are both correct accounts so I’m going to ask them to check their spam folders. Both say they are not receiving the posts although they did receive the first post or two. I wonder if the bula address is an account that is linked to karin. Molly is their dog’s name so one of her tech savvy kids may have mapped the bula yahoo address to karin?

    So when I delete someone from the user list they aren’t actually deleted? I attempted to delete the karin and randy accounts but when I try to add them again it says the accounts exist. So, deleting them was a primitive attempt on my part (the bigger hammer approach) to solve the “no notification” problem. Since I can’t delete them is there some way to get them to reappear on the user list?

    Hopefully I’ll be running this blog for a while so it would be good if I understand what’s going on. Thanks again, Dan

    Could you tell me more about this? What list are you deleting people from? For public sites, following and unfollowing a site is completely in the hands of the subscriber, so I’m not sure where you are adding and removing people.

    If you could send a link to where you are deleting people from, I’ll be able to answer your question about what that action does :)

    When you send the invite are you sending it with the ‘Follower’ role? That would explain why you see the ‘account already exists’ error, because Karen and Randy are both still followers, listed here:

    They’re just not site users:

    When you delete someone from the user list, they can still be a follower. Followers aren’t deleted – that’s in control of the follower only.
