Two Problems

  • Unknown's avatar

I just created my blog today, and after playing around a ton with my two entries, I found two problems that I can’t get rid of:
    1) How do you make it so a post on your homepage, instead of showing the full post, just has a small summary of what it discusses? I thought there was a way to do this, but I don’t know how.
    2) I’m having the same problem as the person who created the “Posts publishing out of order” thread. I created my first post earlier today, but after making another one later on, it appeared second instead of first where it should be.

    Thank you!

    1. This is theme dependent, and the only one I’m aware of that does this is Hemingway.

    2. This may, although I’m not entirely sure, be related to the timestamp bug I discovered today. From my research, it seems to affect posts and comments that are made within one hour. If there is over an hour between them, then it doesn’t come into play. I have sent a ticket into support in hopes they will get it fixed quickly.

Thanks for the replies. I just realized the reason I was having problem #2 was because it involved the automatic first post WordPress creates, and it looks as if that always stays at the top. For #1 however, I am using Andreas04. I know this must work on this design because I’ve been a reading a blog that uses this design and for some of his posts he does this.

For #1 you can use the Read More icon to split your post so that only part of it shows.

thesacredpath, raincoaster–What can we do to get the posts in the correct order? I went back and deleted them and then reposted them in the order I want them and it didnt work out…

The Hello world post should not stay at the top. Go to settings > general and make sure your GMT time offset is set correctly.

At wordpress.com, we are very limited on what we can do. We cannot modify the underlying theme files, which is what it takes to make the change you want. The blogs you are looking at are self-hosted using the software downloaded from wordpress.org.

Ok, I’ve got both problems cleared. Thanks a ton to everyone who helped!
