Two Questions
-
1) On my site: findingmyfire.com
i am unable to get logged in and do a jetpack upgrade. I get the error message below. I’ve found several threads on the topic, but all about updating manually and looking for inidivudal files. I’m not very technical, and have not been able to sort out a fix.Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_json_encode() in D:Hosting11203195htmlwp-adminincludesmisc.php on line 668
2. I initially purchased my domain and hosting via GoDaddy. It’s coming up for renewal. Am I able to make my purchase through WordPress?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
1) I checked your Jetpack connection, ran your site through the Jetpack debugger, and visited your wp-admin login page. All those looked good at the moment.
Could you specify where you’re seeing that error: Is it when first logging into your site? Or while attempting to update Jetpack?
2) You’ll need to keep your domain and hosting renewed through GoDaddy’s account settings, not through WordPress.

Alex,
I missed your response. Applogies.
As soon as I login to the admin portal, I’m brought to this URL: http://findingmyfire.com/wp-admin/plugins.php?plugin_status=upgrade and that’s where I get the error message.

Ok, so you are able to login. At least that’s good. :)
What’s happening with that error is that a different plugin, not Jetpack, is running some code earlier than Jetpack is ready to handle it and that’s causing the halt. We’ll need to delete Jetpack from your site using FTP.
With FTP (also known as File Transfer Protocol), you would need to contact your webhost to get your FTP login information for your website. If you don’t know where to find that in your hosting account setting, their support staff should be able to provide that for you upon request.
Then, here’s a great tutorial video on how to use FTP to find your plugins folder – the video references how to fix things if plugins go wrong!
http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-use-ftp-to-upload-files-to-wordpress-for-beginners/
You would want to navigate to wp-content/plugins/ and find the folder named “jetpack”. You can then delete the entire “jetpack” folder and that will remove the plugin from your site.
Here’s what your WordPress file structure should look like and where the “jetpack” folder is located – it may look different based upon the program you’re using for FTP, but the structure is going to be the same:
That should take care of it – then you can reinstall the Jetpack plugin from the dashboard of your site. If you want to make sure there aren’t any conflicts when you reinstall, you can temporarily disable your existing plugins, then reactivate them after you get Jetpack up and running.

I was able to get into the FTP using Filezilla, and deleted the jetpack. When I am logged back into wordpress and I try to access the site, I get the same error message.
Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_json_encode() in D:Hosting11203195htmlwp-adminincludesmisc.php on line 668

So that error is preventing you from taking any action on your plugins?
Could you please take a screenshot of how the error appears?
Once you have the screenshot image, please upload it to one of your WordPress.com media libraries so I can take a look.

I have uploaded a ppt to my findingmyfire.wordpress.com media libarary of the sreenshots (WPscreenshots). I am not able to get into findingmyfire.com

Hi there,
So if that error is persisting after removing Jetpack over FTP, as you’ve done.
The next thing to try would be to update WordPress core software over FTP.
Download the core WordPress files here:
Unzip the folder, then once again open FileZilla.
Do not copy over the /wp-content/ folder, and do not copy over the wp-config.php file.
But everything else in your current WordPress installation, update with the new files.
Basically, drap and drop over all the folders and files except /wp-content/ folder and the wp-config.php file. :)
After doing that update over FTP, try logging in once again.
If that error still persists after that update, then the error isn’t with WordPress core software or with Jetpack and I’m afraid I’m not sure what the next course of action would be. I’d recommend seeking further help with your hosting provider and also in the forums at http://wordpress.org/support/ .
