Two questions!

Hello!
First, I have taken over a WordPress site that has a lot of tags with missing meta titles or descriptions (found as errors in Moz). They are almost always ‘tag’ pages, (www.website.com/tag/topic) and sometimes on the page nothing is tagged and sometimes only one thing is tagged. I started adding meta titles or descriptions as needed, just to be safe, but then I started thinking, what am I doing this for? The main pages are the ones that we want to direct traffic to, so I want to know if I can delete all these tags and simply go on my merry way and do something more important? Or are they in reality helping SEO? Clearly I’m kinda new at this so be kind lol!
Second, how do I fix this error which is showing up when I search in the dashboard for posts and pages?
