Two questions re Cubic theme

Hi,
I’m new to WordPress and have two questions about the Cubic theme I’ve just started using. Hope someone can help. The blog is at http://patentsrockblog.wordpress.com.
1. The images displayed on the main page seem to be resized automatically such that there are black horizontal lines above and below some of the images. Does anyone know what I need to do to sort that?
2. The image displayed on the main page for the most recent post isn’t the image from that post; it’s from a previous post. Does anyone know how I correct that?

That can happens with images that are more rectangular than square. Uploading images that are 4:3 (width:height ratio) generally takes care of the black bars, though I’m not seeing any on your site at the moment.
2. The image displayed on the main page for the most recent post isn’t the image from that post; it’s from a previous post. Does anyone know how I correct that?
Uploading a featured image to the post takes care of that.
If a post does not have a featured image, then the theme falls back to the first image attached to the post.
You can see to which post an image is attached in the Media Library’s List view, in the “Uploaded to” column:

If an image is attached to a post where you don’t want it displayed on the front page grid, you can click “Detach” there. You may need to re-upload an image within a post to get it attached to the correct post.
Let me know if this is clear, I know the concept of “attached” images in WordPress can be confusing.

Thank you kathrynwp. I managed to resolve question 1 (perhaps before you looked at the site), but it’s good to know why I was getting the black lines :)
Ah, I think I must have attached the image to the wrong post. That explains it.

I have the same problem of the application 1. How do I remove the black bars on the images of the homepage? I tried to resize images with aspect ratio 4.3 but does not change anything.

Hi Marco – that site appears to be using Spun, do you have another site running Cubic I could take a look at?

I apologize. I think I understand what my problem with Cubic. I do not want it to appear featuring the image so Cubic uses the first image of the post that is too small for the size of the images of the homepage. It is possible to not show the featured image in the post?
I’m trying Spun and seems to respond to my needs.

Marco – if you open the Customizer in Cubic and go to the Theme Options panel, you could check the box that says “If featured image isn’t set, display colored block on blog page.”
