Two sidebard items — are they permanent? and how do I get rid of them?

    Hi all:

On the right I have two “items” that are not on my other site of the same template. One say “About the site” and underneath it it has the phrase I used to describe the blog and I don’t know how it got there — link to my blog below. Also, I want to get rid of the block that says “links” just underneath that. Are these static? I have looked everywhere for a place that will delete these or at least put them in order so they are not at the top. Also, I have had little luck in arranging my pages in order. I put in “1” where it suggests to do that and then it just stays there. Thanks for any help?

    1. You need to go to Appearance>Widgets and add the widgets you really want. When you activate a theme, it displays a small preset selection of artificial sidebar items (the selection varies from theme to theme). Once you add any widget yourself, the preset goes.

    2. I’m not sure I understand the bit about the page order. Did you click “Update Page” afterwards? Also, that would only take care of the header tabs; for the sidebar list, you’ll have to go to the Pages widget (after you’ve added it, of course), click Edit, select the proper option, then click Save Changes.

Thanks: I did go to “Widgets” but there is only “Add” and also is says I have “0” widgets on my sidebar. What I want to do is to remove the links widget and the block above it that says “About the site” so the first thing you see is a list of pages. Hope I am not wearing you out. Thank you!

The reason it shows 0 is because you have not added any widgets, as panos said above. Add a widget and the preset list disappears.
