Two Step Authentication

    I have now spent the whole evening with trying to log in/trying again/successfully logged in/being thrown out again/trying to log in/trying again…. you get it?
    Why can’t this f…ing app work before you have us to act like guinea pigs??
    The app just closes down time after time after time…
    I’m so mad I’ve just disabled the function!! :-(((((

    I’m really sorry for not being nice now, and I know you are doing a great job for us, and your support is really great, it’s just that I’m really mad right now…

    Can somebody please tell me that it is on its way of being fixed?

    I’d like to assist you with this, but I’m not sure if I understand correctly or not.

    Are you trying to access WordPress.com from a mobile device such as an iPhone/Android or a tablet? If so, you will need to set an application-specific password to log in once you have your two-step enabled. This is something you should only have to do once.

    Yes, I have an iPhone and an iPad, and I have set a specific password to each one of them.
    But the app is crashing all the time, when I’m in the Reader, and then I have had troubles with loggin in again. My iPad is working on wifi, but the passwords I printed out did not work on that unit, and the passwords the app created did not work either. One of the printed ones worked on my computer later yesterday evening when I had to log in again on it too, though I have been logged in at the computer all the time..
    So as I see it, the worst problem is the non working app, then there seem to be some kind of time issue with the log in…
    I’m truly sorry for poor English, but I hope you understand what I mean anyway.

    I’m sorry to hear about all these troubles.

    It looks like the shimmeringgrains account does not have two-step authentication set up, so it sounds more like you are having general issues logging into your account on the iPhone and iPad. That means you shouldn’t need to use the application-specific passwords to log in on a device, but instead just use your regular password.

    It would be helpful if you could provide a few more details:

    1) What model of each device are you using, and which version of the iOS?
    2) Are you trying to log in only via the WordPress app or have you also tried through a browser (e.g. Safari or Chrome) on the devices?
    3) Is your WordPress app up to date on both devices?
    4) Could you take a screen capture of any error or other messages you’re getting, and either upload them to your media library or send them to me via email (including my name and #362867-f in the subject line) so I can see the issues you’re experiencing?

    Well, I had to disable the two steps authentication, that is why I don’t have it…

    1) iPhone 4 and iPad 3 (new generation…) Os – latest, updated it just a couple of days ago.

    2) Both the app and Safari (on the mobile devices), Firefox on my computer.

    3) Yes, I always update an app as soon as there is an update available.

    4) As I have disabled…. no…. But how should you be able to see an app crasch? It just goes away… Or when the app tells me – You have given a wrong password, please, try again…..

    Are you able to log in now without 2-step authentication activated, or are you still having issues logging in now that it’s deactivated?

    No, I have no troubles when I have disabled the two-step, not even with the app. It is not crashing now.
    But for the security, I would like to use the two step.

    I just checked with our mobile team, and they gave me two recommendations for you.

    First, try redoing the installation of your WordPress app and two-step. So, try this:

    1) Uninstall the WordPress app.
    2) Enable two step on WordPress.com.
    3) Create a new application password.
    4) Reinstall the app.
    5) Sign in with the app password in lieu of normal password.

    Try this on one device first and see if it works, then try the other one.

    If you are still crashing or having difficulty logging in, it would be helpful to our team if you could generate logs for us. This page explains how to set that up on your iOS device:
