Two Step Authentication

I don’t own a cell phone and was wondering if I can use my friends phone.
But He already uses his number for the Authentication.
So Can I have the same phone number for different users two step authentication?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Yes – it is possible to setup SMS two-step authentication for multiple accounts on the same number. However, this likely isn’t the best option for security. This individual would have the two-step authentication code for your site. So, if they potentially got access to your username and password, they could access your site. There’s also the difficulty of contacting your friend every time you need to access your site.

Instead, I would opt for using a very strong password (from a password app like 1Password).

Let me know if you need anything else!

    Hi Jeremy
    Thank you for the reply.
However in order to even activate the two step authentication I need a cell phone number. Without it I can’t even get past step 1. Correct?

That is correct. The cellphone number is required if you would like to enable two-step authentication. The cellphone number acts as either a backup if you’re using the Google Authenticator app for two-factor authorization or as the primary method if you opt to enabled 2FA through text message. Does that make sense?
