Two Step Authentication Problem

    ATTN: wordpress.com Support Team

I have enabled two-step authentication for my account with username: stavroskr registered under the following email: (email visible only to moderators and staff).

Today when i tried to log in I typed my username and password but when I pressed “log in” instead for the system to ask me for the authentication key from the the google authenticator it logged in to my account directly as if there was no two step authentication enabled.

The most important problem that I encounter is that when I go to my account’s settings the following message is displayed:

    [QUOTE]

For security reasons, you can only edit user settings while logged in with a Two Step Authentication code.

Please logout, then log back in with your Master Password and authentication code to continue.

    [/UNQUOTE]

I logged out and signed in many times but I still can’t access my account’s settings. I deleted my browser’s cookies and cache but the problem remains.

What should I do? And what is the “Master Password”? As far as I know I only have one password for my wordpress.com account.

For your reference the same problem occurs to another account that I have for wordpress.com (username: officerofthewatcheditor).

Thanking you in advance for your kind attention and looking forward to hearing from you.

    Kind Regards
    Stavros Kairis

I believe you will have to visit https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
and click the “Need More Help” link to complete the form for account recovery. https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

P.S. Note that I tagged this thread for a Staff follow-up.

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

Actually I reset my password a little while ago and still the problem remains.

Most probably I will try an account recovery, if nothing changes.

  • Howdy,

I’m sorry to hear about this and definitely not expected. Since this involves authenticating into your account, I’d prefer to take this to e-mail for your privacy. I’ll send you an e-mail in a few moments to the e-mail address listed in the account (same as mentioned before).

    Thanks!

I logged in just a while ago with both accounts and the system did ask for the authentication code provided from google authenticator.

The problem seems to have been resolved since I can also access the accounts settings.

Once again thank you for your prompt reply.
