two step authentication using SMS
-
Want to add the two-step authenticator using SMS. The phone to which the SMS is set to refuse text messages for phone numbers not listed in my contacts list. (Because the Do Not Call List means nothing in real life.)
Is there a way to a) add the phone number from which the SMS will be sent to my phone or b) otherwise signal that wordpress text msgs will be accepted?I know that the answer will probably be, “Fat chance, how many more security gaps does anyone need?” and that I’ll have to reset my phone settings – but hoping that’s not the case.
Thanks!

Hi there,
Does this help? It expresses what can be done and if your cannot see what you want there then it does not exist http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/04/05/two-step-authentication/ -
Thanks timethief. I now realize that what I need is not a phone number, but rather the reference code that wordpress uses when it send its SMS to me. In other words, when I look at the list of text messages, how is the wordpress SMS identified from the list – what number will show up before i open the ‘envelope’ of that sms message?
Thanks!

It’s not actually a phone number, but rather one of those shorter text-only numbers which changes frequently.
If you have an iOS, Android, or Blackberry device, you can use the Google Authenticator app instead.

Thanks, macmanx. No such devices. Was hoping that WordPress’ reference code might hold constant, as some other vendor codes do.
Thanks for responding so quickly. -
