Two step authorization
-
For nearly 4years I have written this blog. Now with this two step authoizatiom security, I can’t get in. There are no instructions and no warnings. If this is not corrected I am out. Woody Williams
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Don’t worry. two step authentication is optional. You don’t need to enable it. WordPress now recommend it – but if you have a hard to guess password, run latest virus scanners and never access wordpress in an internet cafe you are probably safe without it.
-
OK Thank you, Tandava108, but how do I get my old admin screen back to post and edit new blogs?
-
Me too, I need to have my 2 step authentication removed because i do not own the cell phone no. for account recovery. please advise how to remove this 2 step authentication so that I can reset my password more easily. Thank you.
-
I believe that if you lose your phone and all the emergency codes that the system told you to print out and keep in a safe place (it then asks you to confirm that you have done so) you will need staff to help you.
Because the whole point of enabling 2-factor authentication is to ensure that nobody can access your account without this data, I hope and expect that they will want some proof that you are who you say you are.
I’m flagging this thread for staff attention. Please be patient as it may take a while for them to get round to this thread.

Please let me know what you need for me to prove to you that I am lauralohhosog, the owner of lauralohho weblog on lauralohho.wordpress.com. Please help me to ensure that nobody breaks into my weblog in future anymore to tamper or make changes to my blog-posts without my permission, knowledge and authorization.

If you have enabled two-step authentication and now cannot access your site, please go to the following link:
https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
From there, click on the “need more help?” link for assistance with recovering your accounts.

If you are logged in you should be able to go to: https://wordpress.com/settings/security/ and then press disable
-
jackiedana: My problem IS NOT with lost password but how exactly to disable a two-step authentication that currently exists in my setting.
-
danielisreading: There is no ‘disable’ button (I assume that’s what you’re referring) on your attached link.
-
This is where the disable button is on the attached link:

tandava108: Apparently, from your link, I am thinking that something else not a 2 step authentication have been installed in my ‘Security’ setting. It is a four-step authentication?? First step as enter a cellphone no, a downloaded app in the second step with a security code which is a QR code belonging to my husband as the 3rd step and ‘finished’ as the 4th step. My husband was the one who put in this security measure in my wordpress.com account but does not know how to disable it. He have directed me to this forum to ask for help to remove/disable it.
-
I don’t use the app for authentication, but I would Have thought it would have the same “disable” option. I think you will have to wait until someone who does use the app or staff tell you how to disable it.
-
i’m not able to upload pics to my blog. the post to blog is frozen. there’s also a 2-step authorization pop up. would this be affecting my picture problem?
-
You can use this link to reach the password reset page
https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
Then scroll down and click the “Need More Help?” link next to the button, and fill out the form. Our account recovery team will get back to you by email so you can discuss the options in private. -
I wouldn’t go without two-step authorization these days, and I am SO THANKFUL WordPress started to use it.
We are only at a level 2 warning, and there were over 800,000 Attacks on the US, first target: banks, second target : the average american.I know with 2-step authorization no one is going to get into my account which gives them my email and any other linked accounts I have which could give them access to other things.
Please remember this holiday season folks
1. NEVER EVER give your banking passwords or login to anyone! (golden rule)
2. Never Ever click on a link inside an email that appears to be from your bank, paypal or other organization who you purchase or do business with.
You are much safer to type the link of the organization into your browser and from there login to your account and view the item which the organization sent you. These two golden rules will save your funds, your credit cards and your identity, from being stolen by the bad folks.
Kudo’s to WordPress for being active in providing additional security to it’s users!
**statistics from Symantec world organization:
-
Oh, those 800,000 attacks were PER DAY.
Mostly by Americans targeting other Americans.
just fyi,
However I would love it if WordPress added an edit button :) -
Well, actually, the majority of spam attacks and phishing attacks come from outside the US.

raincoaster is correct as studies prove about 50% of all junk mail on the net emerges from just 20 internet service providers (ISPs). In March 2013 a survey of more than 42,000 ISPs tried to map the net’s “bad neighbourhoods” to help pinpoint sources of malicious activity. Many of these networks were concentrated in India, Vietnam and Brazil. On the net’s most crime-ridden network – Spectranet in Nigeria – 62% of all the addresses controlled by that ISP were seen to be sending out spam.
