Two WordPress Domains For One WordPress Website
-
I recently purchased a second WordPress domain (let’s call that domain2) in attempts to have it map/redirect to an existing wordpress domain/blog that I currently own (domain1). I don’t want to replace domain1 with domain2, just have both domains pointing to the same place.
However, to redirect domain2 to domain1, I have to pay for redirecting ($13). I already paid $13 for domain mapping when I purchased domain2 (which automatically maps to domain2.wordpress.com), and when I try to change the blog address of domain2 to domain1.wordpress.com, it won’t let me because the site has already been used (yes, by me!).
So my question is, can I map domain2 to either domain1 or domain1.wordpress.com without having to pay the redirecting fee?
Both domains were purchased from WordPress. I have not created content for domain2, so I would not need to export/import ant content from there.
Thanks!

you can domain map more than one custom domain name to the same WordPress.COM site (both custom-1 & custom-2 can be mapped to your-site.wordpress.com) – – but only one name can be Primary – (displayed in the address bar of visitors browsers)

Thanks for your reply auxclass. Can you or someone tell me how I can do this? Would it be through the WP-admin?

@phuongtnguy – the following should help
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
@kerin2014 – forward and mask has some issues – we don’t provide support for that so you are on your own – – your custom domain name never gets any SEO – visitors can’t get a good URL if they want to share a Post since you are masking it – and from time to time other things tend to break

Thanks for the link @auxclass. Maybe I am not seeing it or simply don’t understand, but it appears that the link you sent only covers domains purchased elsewhere (instead of domains purchased through WordPress.)
The steps it provides insist that I pay $13 to map domain2 to domain1. But I’ve already paid $13 for domain mapping when I purchased domain2 through WordPress –the only problem is that it automatically mapped to domain2.wordpress.com instead of where I’d like it to be mapped to, which is domain1.com (or even domain1.wordpress.com).
If you or someone can provide me the steps to change my domain mapping, that would be greatly appreciated!

If I paid the $13 to map domain2 as it is telling me on their support page, it would be essentially paying WordPress to map my domain twice. It would look like this
Domain2 -> domain2.wordpress.com -> domain1
rather than
Domain2 -> domain1

I have flagged this for the staff to help – sounds like you need help moving some upgrades
you can only map to a WordPress.COM base blog
Domain1 -> domain.wordpress.com
Domain2 -> domain.wordpress.comnote – the example domain can be either domain1.wordpress.com or domain2.wordpress.com
in the above example you would have two domain registrations and two domain mapping upgrades – one would be Primary
you can’t do domain2.com to domain1.com
the domain mapping mapping instructions work from domains registered anywhere – but the link I gave assumes that the domain is purchased somewhere
-
you are welcome
to help the staff – what are the real domains you need help with – they need to know that info so they can move things correctly the first time and advise you on what if any additional upgrades you would need to purchase

I can help sort this out, but it would be a lot easier if we could speak in specifics. What domains do you want to point to which WordPress.com site?

Thank you staff-ozmodiar and @auxclass.
I currently own phuongnguy.com and phuongwrites.com. I’d like phuongwrites.com to point to phuongnguy.com (or phuongnguy.wordpress.com).
Both phuongnguy.com and phuongwrites.com domains were purchased through wordpress.com.
I apologize for the delay in reply and sincerely hope you can still assist me with this issue! Thank you.
