  How can I delete that feature that requires people to type the letters that they see in that little box before their comment to me can go out? I find those things very difficult to decipher and would not want commenters to me to have to go through what I consider an irksome inconvenience.

  If I end up getting wild, bad spam then I will change my mind, but for now, I would like to eliminate that inconvenience for those who wish to communicate with me. (I just now tried to test out the feature in my blog, and I failed the retype test.)

  Hi. As far I know, on WordPress.com, visitors and commenters need not to write “ReCAPTCHA” as on other sites. WORDPRESS.COM is protected by inbuilt spam detection service Akismet. You need to go through “Recaptcha” on when you’re using “Email this” sharing feature.

  Here is specifically whet I discovered:

  1. I clicked the Email/Contact link above my Header.
  2. A form appeared. I typed a test word.
  3. Then I clicked the SHARE link and an array of Share options appeared.
  4. I clicked EMAIL, and when I did so, a “Type what you see” appeared.

  That is the feature that I would like to disable.

  That’s exactly what wpgaurav is talking about.

  A visitor would only use that feature if they want to share your contact form with other people. A visitor who just wants to send you an email would not need to click on “Share” and enter a “catpcha”.

  My apologies to wpgaurev for overlooking his last sentence about the “Email this” feature! I now see why this is necessary for the email.

  Thank you both of you for clarifying this for me.
  I still dislike those “Type it again” spam protectors. Some of them are so difficult to read that I have tried over and over and over to type the word or words…. and sometimes I have simply given up. I speak of other sites, not WordPress sites.

  About the captchas, I hear ya :-)

  There was even a company once that approached me to replace the “Email this” captcha with advertising messages… Even if I had the ability to add plugins or advertising, I would have declined that.
