TypePad Import Hangs

I have been trying to import 7-9 MB TypePad files that keep staying in this state:
Processing…
We’re processing your import now and will send you an email when it’s all done. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, please contact support, and we’ll get everything fixed.
This may stay this way for days. I have made this inquiry before.
Do you have any recommendations to prevent this hang from happening?
According to this post (http://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_from_Movable_Type_to_WordPress), it may be an issue with file size. I have re-split my 11 x 7-9 MB files into 35 x 2 MB files so I can try again.
I have a corollary issue: Some parts of the post do not import correctly. This post (http://first-draft.com/2014/05/20/mad-men-thread-did-you-park-your-white-horse-outside/) is missing its entire extended body, which was part of the exported data.
Can you propose solutions to both of these issues?

I’ve deleted the problematic import so you should be able to try again.
I see that you’ve had this problem before, but it was several months ago. Are these new posts you are trying to import, or has resetting the importer not worked in the past?

I think the files either may be badly formatted or that they were too large. I will retry now.

I have another stuck import. Think I made a mistake in splitting the files before import. Can this be cleared again?

I’ve reset it.
Perhaps you should try re-exporting your files from TypePad. It seems there might be a problem with the export you are working with.

Could be. The file was quite large, then separated into 2 MB files. The export was too large for TypePad to do through the web interface. Their support team was needed.

Could these problems be caused by bad HTML content in the transferred files? I’m reviewing the HTML content and finding a lot of unclosed tags, etc.

I’ve reset the importer for you, but I also want to see if we can figure out what’s going on. I see your blog already has 12,874 posts. Are the posts you are trying to upload now additional posts, or new copies of the same content?
If you are trying to fix the old copies of posts with new copies of posts, that could be part of the issue.

This may or may not be breaking the importer, but it will cause problem on your site later. Are you able to clean up the source material at all?

I am going to run the files through xmllint or htmltidy to see if that helps. Otherwise, I am just pulling them into Sublime Text, reindenting the text and fixing things until the indents line up correctly. I will be trying one fixed file today to see if that’s it. If not, well, you know what’s coming…

I’m happy to keep resetting the importer as long as it takes.
Could you confirm–are these new posts, or are they duplicates of some of the exiting posts on your site.
If they are duplicates that could also explain the problems we are having.

Some could be repeats. The original set had problems, too.
That’s helpful. Let’s try the cleaned up files first. If that doesn’t work, I recommend we try importing into an empty WordPress.com site and then moving the files over once we have them in the WordPress format.
