UK access problems?
-
I am in the same situation, AOL / Talktalk.. and it connects for 5 minutes every so often but mostly times out
-
I am also on talktalk (and my time with this ISP was going so well!). However … I don’t have trouble looking at any wordpress blogs and I have no trouble logging into my account at youtube. Just thinking it might be a bandwidth problem with talktalk. But logging into any of my 4 wordpress accounts is hit and miss.
This together with the other user complaints, this must surely point to a wordpress problem? -
-
This looks like it is shaping up to be more of a potential TalkTalk/AOL problem.
Next question:
Of those experiencing issues, how many cleared browsing history /cache / cookies (particularly cookies) from their browser immediately (or shortly) before they started having problems?
-

Using Firefox browser and Talktalk ISP have just cleared cache and Cookies and have still got the problem. Sites start to load up and are in the middle of displaying the “Stats” and I get “The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.” displayed in the Stats area of the screen.
-
I just used a proxy site to see if it would let me in, and it did. I have disabled ad blockers, I have cleared cache etc. Nothing works.
-
Having the same problems folks. Based in the UK and use AOL as IPS. Cannot access dashboard or other features. Come on WordPress sort it out please, been having this problem the last few days now.
-
@g1nern1nja: Yup just tried a proxy service & no issues.
My reason for asking about cookies is that I’m wondering if TalkTalk AOL has done something STUPID following the introduction of the new EU “cookie legislation” at the end of May – like blocking cookies unless explicitly accepted by users when asked to accept them.
I wonder this because I use GMX for webmail, which I was accessing fine up until I re-installed Firefox / Chrome. GMX doesn’t send an explicit cookie access request (so I can’t say yes or no to receiving cookies), with the result that I’m now being logged out from THAT service every 5 minutes as well, because the GMX servers can’t find the “stay logged in” cookie on my computer.
I’m wondering if it is a case that WP doesn’t explicitly ask to set a cookie, and thus any attempt for it to do so is being blocked by TalkTalk/AOL by default, so causing the issues.
Does this make sense? I should add that I’m not a techie, so I’m simply linking a trail of possible dots here and could be totally wrong.

peysworld
Easily tested. Just clear all cookies, log back in and see if WordPress’s cookies have been re-set. Turns out they have.
Just to add to the list: I’m on Talk Talk as well.
-
Thanks. I cleared out cooks prior to the issues starting (due to an unrelated problem trying to reach another service) & since then haven’t received any pop-ups relating to WP cookies and I’m not seeing anything related to WordPress listed in Firefox’s cookies list. Given the GMX issue, it was a leap in the dark.
Resetting and trying again.
-
Resetting the cookies did nothing for me :-/ What’s stupid is I can access the site if I go in via the .com, but if I try to open anything with wordpress in it, it crashes out.

Been having same problem for 3 days. Nightmare to catch a moment to actually post something after it lets me in for a moment. Have posted on other threads where plenty other people in same boat, which is sort of reassuring.
I use chrome (but happens with any browser), Talk Talk, no Adblock. Have cleared cookies etc til i’m blue in the face. Someone will work out what’s up sooner or later…
-
I am on TalkTalk. As nobody with this problem has come forward to say that they are not with that ISP, it looks to be the source of the problem?
I hope WP admin/techies address this issue soon or at least give us some sort of update. The silence is a frustration in itself.
-
I finally got WP cookies to show up in Firefox. Yay me. Connection was actually stable for around 90 minutes & managed to get some work done OK. Now back to the same problem in both Firefox and Chrome.
I trust this thread isn’t going to be closed off summarily by WP staff, as has happened with the thread pointed to above…
-
Has anyone who uses TalkTalk tried setting up and using a Blogger site. Might rule out Cookies and ISP as the problem source.
-
Just created a Blogger blog and done a couple of posts. No problem with ISP resetting my connection.
-
A shame that chrisrudzki didn’t read the thread before he closed the other one. I’m not even sure that WP staff are paying attention – or even really care that much.
May leave us with no other choice but to migrate our blogs elsewhere if this problem persists and they remain silent and just close threads?
