UK view count not updating

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi all,

My stats on my blog are weirdly low – when looking the UK views are on 6 (similar day last week 300-1000 views). USA is much higher and seems like a sensible amount. Is it possible my stat counter isn’t working properly?!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Our stats are not real time stats and take time to update. There are frequent fluctuations that most do not notice because we aren’t watching the process. For details see here http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/ and note the views and viewers take hours to update.

Our stats are page view stats. But please do not assume that everyone who clicks a follow, like, share, reblog or comment link actually reads the post on your blog because odds are they may not.

Follow, like, share, reblog or comment clicks are not page views. In fact, follows, likes, shares, comments and reblogs are completely misleading when you are talking about page view stats.

Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com/Gravatar account who is logged into WordPress.com can “follow” your blog, “like”, “share” and “reblog” your posts and “comment” in several locations such as the Reader, without ever clicking into your blog and creating a single page view stat. Subscribers control how frequently they receive your posts (instantly, daily, weekly) and can comment without clicking into the blog.

Logged in visitors using a mobile can read the full post without creating a page view stat. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wordpresscom-reader-show-full-text?replies=31#post-1373606

You can control the length of the entry sent out on your RSS feed here Dashboard > Settings > Reading. Choose the “summary” setting for your RSS feed rather than to “full text”. That will compel followers who are not using mobiles to click into the blog to read the full post which will create a page view stat.

If you are sure your stats need to be investigated then you need to be specific and post details here so Staff know exactly which stats you are referring to when they get to this thread.

You can post screenshots and share them with Staff. You can use http://snag.gy/ to share screenshots. Or you can use the WordPress.com guide I linked to and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it. Then type modlook into the sidebar tags of this thread for their attention.

I agree with fatherhood stories. My stats today (and yesterday) are the lowest for 12 months. I know more people are visiting. I think there is a problem in the UK at least.

There are two other active threads on this issue and now I’m tagging this one as a third thread for Staff attention. Unfortunately folks did not all post into the same thread.

I have had a discussion with a WP technician who is looking into it.

    Hi gexall,

I have had exactly the same problem. I had my students all on my website today revising for a test and apparently I had 2 views in that time.

Hi I am not sure which is the operative thread so I am adding my enquiry about the stats over the past 24 hours to this thread as well.

I would like to agree with the original post on here that there does seem to be something odd going on with the WordPress statistics. I write the Notayesmaneconomics blog and from lunchtime yesterday (UK time) there have been far fewer views on my blog.

This is odd as I have a solid and regular readership and because I was on Share Radio twice yesterday so I would expect more and not fewer views.

So I too would appreciate it of this matter could be investigated.

    Thank you

Please post only into a single thread on any single issue.

I agree, that was about the same time for myself. Between 12-3pm yesterday as well that the views were a fraction of the anticipated amount.

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry, which one is the active post?

  • Unknown's avatar

You can post screenshots and share them with Staff. You can use http://snag.gy/ to share screenshots. Or you can use the WordPress.com guide http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/ and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.

It’s ok, I have already used the chat function on my premium account to talk to a technician about it.

I am just finding it interesting to identify what the similar issues are and it is also interesting that it has happened at around the same time. This might be useful information to get it resoluted

I have already used the chat function on my premium account to talk to a technician about it.

This is a peer support forum where Staff and Volunteers work together cooperatively to provide WordPress.com support. Emailing support or using live chat if you have the required upgrade means it takes longer to get an answer than posting to the support forums does. Please do only one or the other.

Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention and through all email support tickets in order of datestamps and timestamps – first posted first served, as would be expected.

How long it takes to clear the threads and support tickets depends on how many Happiness Engineers are working on them at any given point in time. It also depends on how complex the issues in each thread and ticket are are.

Don’t bump your thread or threads created by others unnecessarily because it’s not in your best interest or theirs to post into any thread after it has been tagged for Staff help. Don’t create a new thread or send an email for support either.

When bloggers keep bumping any thread thinking they are going to get service from Staff more quickly, they aren’t thinking straight, because that moves the timestamps forward and it takes longer to get a response. The same is true if you email more than once the date moves forward and it takes longer to get help.

Sorry… I thought this was a forum to discuss problems. I didn’t realise there was such strict rules as to what could or could not be discussed here.

Apologies again, I just thought it was useful to find out what exactly had gone on for other people as well.

I do not want to ‘bump’ anything… If you read through my posts I have just trying to enquire about the issue to see what had gone wrong.

Yet again I apologise, I thought it was the WordPress support forum that everyone should go to to receive assistance or discuss issues. I do find it regretful that I have been accused of some kind of misdemeanour by doing so… Is it normal for WordPress to treat their paying customers like this?

Same problem with stats on my blogs (self hosted).
Seems to be visits via searches that are showing as a lot lower than is relly happening. I have adsense on one blog on all pages – and the ad views counted on adsense is fairly steady over the past 3 or 4 days but wordpress stats is about half of those expected.

Please post in that thread (despite glaring grammatical error) so we don’t have a million separate threads for staff to follow.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for letting us know about your stats issue. Our team is looking into this now, and I’ll let you know when we have an update about it!

  • Unknown's avatar

Stats took some time to fix—if they aren’t already fixed for you, they should be returning back to normal soon.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks very much – mine appear to have updated!
