UK webhosting advice (edited)

I’m looking for advice on webhosts. I have a simple WordPress site that I maintain myself. I’m not very techy, so I don’t understand a lot of backend stuff. So I need a host that can offer very good tech support (esp when things go wrong like I delete an important file). It also needs to be reasonably priced.

I am happy with my current webhost (TSOhost). I joined them after a recommendation, and they’ve been 5*. But I’ve been with them for 15 years or so, so I’m wondering if there’s anything cheaper with the same level of support. I’m paying around £35 a year.

(Reposted because I couldn’t work out how to edit my last post, sorry!)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, these forums you’ve posted to assists users with free websites hosted on the WordPress.com platform. WordPress.com is a hosting provider that hosts WordPress sites, powered by Automattic. WordPress.org is a community where people work on the open source WordPress software. It’s also where that software can be downloaded to be run on your own web server. You can read more about these differences at https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

WordPress.com is great for folks who want to concentrate on their content and leave the back end of things, like updates and security, to their hosting provider. This is called managed WordPress hosting. The support document I linked to above outlines what is possible with WordPress.com vs. the open source WordPress software hosted someplace else. You’ll find the costs for hosting on WordPress.com in this document https://wordpress.com/pricing/

WordPress.com comes with great support and when you purchase an upgrade plan, you’ll have direct access to support via email and/or LiveChat depending on your plan. More on this here: https://wordpress.com/support/help-support-options/

If you are looking specifically for recommendations for WordPress hosting, you’ll get more relevant answers if you post to that community’s forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums where you’ll find documentation and users who have more experience with the software you are using.

I hope that helps, but post back here if you have other questions about this.

  • Hi there,

    I’m paying around £35 a year.

That is very cheap for hosting, so if you’re happy with the service you currently get, I don’t think you’ll get better than that.

But you can find information on our recommended hosts here:

Note that we don’t allow affiliate linking in this forum, so I’ve removed the link from your post above.
