    Hi charleybliss25,

Currently my domain name is mapped to the free wordpress blog but I want to buy the domain for use.

Which domain are you referring to? And which is the URL of the site you would like to use it for?

Let me know and we’ll go from there.

    Thanks!

    Hi charleybliss25,

Currently my domain name is mapped to the free wordpress blog but I want to buy the domain for use.

I’ve checked the domain and it isn’t registered or mapped to any sites at the moment. It’s currently available to register, which is good news :)

I would like to own the domain and use it as my own site.

There are no sites in your account, so the first step is to create one:

    https://wordpress.com/start/

You will also have the option to choose a plan and register a domain — custom domains are a feature of paid plans.

Come back to me if you have any questions.

I deleted the site yesterday and when as an attempt see if purchasing the domain would then become available. Although the dashboard states that I don’t have any sites(correctly) I am unable to purchase the domain name charlotteblissett.com which is mapped to my previous wordpress blog. How can I gain access to the domain, in order to purchase it?

    Thanks

    Hi charleybliss25,

I deleted the site yesterday and when as an attempt see if purchasing the domain would then become available.

I can see you deleted charlottethescribe.wordpress.com, which was owned by the charleybliss25 account you are logged in to now.

charlotteblissett.com is currently owned by charlotteblissett87 and being used for a site in that account. When I double checked that domain yesterday it was showing as unregistered — there must have been a glitch with our domain tool, sorry about that.

How can I gain access to the domain, in order to purchase it?

If you log in as charlotteblissett87 you will be able to manage the domain. It is already connected to a site, is that the one you would like to use?

    Hi Gemma thanks,

In order to use the site professionally will i need to do anything further e.g. do I own the domain outright e.g content that will produce on the site? Will I need to use another host for that e.g bluehost?

    Thank you Kindly

    Hi charleybliss25,

do I own the domain outright e.g content that will produce on the site?

Yes, the domain will be owned by you and renewed annually. You will also own any content you create — content written by someone else will belong to the original author.

Will I need to use another host for that e.g bluehost?

As long as the domain points to a WordPress.com site there is no need to find another host. Hosting, security, and backups are all included on WordPress.com.

    Hi charleybliss25,

I would like to build my site using my the address charlotteblissett.com on wordpress.org not .com.

There are a couple of options:

    1. Keep the domain registered with WordPress.com and point the name servers to your WordPress.org site. There are some instructions in this guide:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-name-servers/

    2. Transfer the domain to another registrar:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/

If you are able to transfer the domain to the same company you are hosting with, it will keep both together in one place.

The WordPress.org website is a great resource if you are thinking about creating a self hosted site, this page in particular:
