un mapping my domain

My domain name http://www.myfreewireless.net was mapped to my wordpress site at one point in time. I no longer have the upgraded account and I changed my name server information with the company that houses my domain name but wordpress still has my domain name locked up. I was wondering if you can release it. when I type in my domain name http://www.MyFreeWireless.net I get the following error message:

Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.

  • Hi there,

We have no control over that domain at all. We cannot prevent you from using a domain just because you had it mapped here at some point. That’s simply not possible for any hosting provider to do :)

The domain is loading your WordPress.com site because it’s being pointed here via a 301 redirect. That is set up at your domain registrar, so you’ll need to contact their support to remove that and point the domain to your current host.

The name servers also aren’t pointed to us any more, so if you’re still seeing the domain mapping error page, it’s because your browser still remembers that the domain used to point here, and is just bringing you to WordPress.com instead of checking whether the domain now points somewhere else. Once you clear your browser cache, that will stop happening.
