Un-parking a parked domain…

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi guys.
    I own http://www.makingtrax.net
Originally I signed up on wordpress.com, then changed my mind and moved to wordpress.org, hosting via Bluehost.
I wasn’t able to make the transition between the two, despite the numerous self-help guides.
I ended up deleting what I thought was the wordpress.com account, which ended up being access to http://www.makingtrax.net completely.
When I log into Bluehost, it shows the correct address, the domain has the correct address, yet the page http://www.makingtrax.net is still parked..
How can I go about ‘un-parking’ a parked domain?

    Hello

Have you check this support Page
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/change-name-servers/point-a-wordpress-com-domain-to-godaddy/

I guess you’ll have to follow it from step 5 with info bluehost provided to you

  • Hi there,

It looks like you cancelled your makingtrax.net domain, and deleted the WordPress.com site to which it was connected.

If you still want to use that domain I can restore it for you, but there needs to be a WordPress.com site in your account before I can do this – if the domain is not connected to a WordPress.com site, you won’t be able to access any of its settings.

Should I also restore the deleted WordPress.com site at makingtraxnet.wordpress.com for this purpose, or would you prefer to create a new free site for this?

Firstly- thankyou for the prompt and useful replies. I was expecting a little bit more eye-rolling at what must be a common yet avoidable error people make.

    Secondly, please restore it.

The ideal outcome for me is that I move away from the wordpress.com site and towards self-hosting via Bluehost. Will restoring the domain mean I’m able to do this?

Once you restore the domain, and also the deleted wordpress.com site, is it an easy enough process to move it away?

I’m not actually sure what the current situation is…

I’ve paid for Bluehost hosting, I’ve bought the domain name, so why is there still a need for wordpress.com to be involved in the ownership of the domain? You can tell I’m pretty new to this :)

Forgive the daily updates- I’m new to the whole thing.

What timescale should I be looking at for you to be able to restore the domain and grant access to it again?

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

I have successfully restored the domain makingtrax.net back to your account.

Please note, that it is only possible to transfer the domain 60 days after the registration date (2018-07-30). This 60-day lock is required by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and cannot be waived.

In the meantime, you can point your domain to your Bluehost hosted site by changing its name servers:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/change-name-servers/

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

    Thankyou!!

I’m used to these things just ‘working’, so it’s all a bit new to me.

If the website “www.makingtrax.net” still says “this domain is parked”, what does that mean? How do I get access to that, even on a WordPress site?

You know when you get that horrible feeling you’ve clicked too many buttons and havent really registered what you’ve done? That’s where I’m at :)

I’m paying Bluehost for hosting. What are they hosting just now? What am I paying for?

I paid WordPress for domain registration and a service (the paid for option, then the free one). I believe they’ve been refunded (at least partially)- are you able to check?

Right now is the website http://www.makingtrax.net caught in some sort of limbo? Is this for 60 days?
Whats the next stage for me to do? I’ve pointed my domain to the bluehost hosted site

  • I’m paying Bluehost for hosting. What are they hosting just now? What am I paying for?

Bluehost is hosting your site. If you want to know more about your hosting plan, you have to contact them.

You paid us (WordPress.com) for both a domain (makingtrax.net) and a hosting plan. You have however canceled your plan (received a refund) and only kept the domain.

Right now is the website http://www.makingtrax.net caught in some sort of limbo? Is this for 60 days?

Your domain is fully functional and not in a limbo state at all. You can keep your domain with us for as long as you like. If you, however, would like to manage your domain along with your site at Bluehost, then you should transfer it over to there. The transfer will be available after 60 days have passed since its registration.

Whats the next stage for me to do? I’ve pointed my domain to the bluehost hosted site

Since you have already correctly pointed your domain at Bluehost you now need to get in touch with them to help you getting started with your site.
