Unable to access notifications…

  I had this a couple of year ago and now it has returned, and I don’t remember how it was resolved.

  Basically, when I click on the notifications icon (the little bell in the top right hand corner) on my site, nothing loads, it just hangs and hangs.

  Also, I can’t “like” posts on other sites – a pop-up window tries to load but doesn’t and nothing happens. The usual fixes of clearing the cache, turning off Adblocker, etc. don’t work so any ideas would be gratefully received.

  The blog I need help with is mibih.wordpress.com.

  And I haven’t signed out of anything as I only have the one account. It was fine on Monday but started playing up yesterday.

  BTW – I wonder if it might be a Chrome issue – which is up to date – as it works fine in Firefox and on my iPhone via Safari. Could it be clashing app or something?

  I disabled all Chrome extensions and tried it but the result was the same.

  Are you currently allowing third-party cookies in Chrome?

  Yes. If I recall I think I had to turn it off to stop other sites or functions from misbehaving on Chrome. I did try switching it on but no avail.

  I wish I could recall what solved it last time….

  Nope, no dice!

  I did notice that when I open “My Sites” in the toolbar that the page design had changed. Have there been any word about this update affecting things in Chrome at all?

  So, I know you ave tried disabling the Chrome extensions (I can see you have the AbBlock active) and also tried enabling cookies but if I could ask you to try one more time like this:
  1. Enable third-party cookies
  2. Disable AdBlock
  3. Clear cache and cookies
  4. Reload the page

  Since everything is working correctly on other browsers it’s clearly related to your Chrome settings, it would be good to test what exactly is causing the notifications not to load.

  Have you tried a fresh installation of Chrome? Just delete the current one off of the computer/device and reinstall it – recheck the behavior and write back.

  No, but that seems like an extreme last resort for something that is on one website out of the many I visit and use on a daily basis.

  Plus, won’t it mean I’ll have to reset everything, including themes, plugins, bookmarks, passwords, personal settings, etc.?

  Ugh! You’re not going to believe this…

  I don’t know why but I was looking at my site and I thought I’d try logging out then logging back into my blog – and guess what? Problem solved! Always the simple solutions eh?
