Unable to access site error message

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
I have a website http://www.wholesome.com that I purchased through BlueHost and had it linked to WordPress with JetPack. I was trying to edit my privacy settings through WordPress but kept received an error message saying the site could not be accessed everytime I tried to save the changes to my settings. I was searching for a solution online, and tried to disconnect the site but then I was left with no site to edit. I then reconnected JetPack to WordPress on the BlueHost editing page but now I somehow have two sites – http://www.wholesomm.com and http://www.wholesomm.wordpress.com. I did not want to create the WordPress URL because obviously I have already purchased the domain. I’m not sure what to do with this extra site and am nervous to delete it in case it’s somehow linked to my actual site now. Additionally, I still am receiving an error message for http://www.wholesomm.com and it says it still cannot be accessed.

Please help me figure out why the site isn’t being access so that I can edit my settings through WordPress and also how to get rid of this second site without losing my actual site…

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi wholesomm,

I can see your site http://www.wholesome.com. This site is part of WordPress.ORG.

The site you have on WordPress.COM, http://www.wholesomm.wordpress.com, is not associated in any way with the site on BlueHost. You can delete it if you wish. Instructions are here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/

For future reference, and if you have questions on your WordPress.ORG site on BlueHost, you will need to ask at the WordPress.ORG forum here: https://wordpress.org/support

You will log into WordPress through your BlueHost account (log into BlueHost first, then click on your WordPress site there) to make any updates. You do not edit your site from WordPress.COM.

If you would like more info on the difference between WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG, see this link: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Please let us know if you need further assistance.

Thank you, joyinco! That has been helpful. I deleted the extra wholesomm.wordpress.com site with no issues.

I am looking through my settings, account info, and products I have on my acocunt through the BlueHost webpage after logging in – it says I have JetPack for WordPress.COM as a plugin…I was under the impression that when I “Installed WordPress” through BlueHost, it was installing a WordPress.COM connection. Also, this is only a recent issue – my site was able to connect through the https://wordpress.com/stats/day/www.wholesomm.com page, and that is in fact the site it leads me to directly from the BlueHost site editor page.

The issue that remains the “cannot access site” problem with my BlueHost site. Do you have any more insight as to how I could fix that?

Also – I received confirmation emails from WordPress.com not WordPress.org so I feel confident it’s with .com and not .org.

Oh – there are emails from both .com and .org. Consider me entirely confused now.

    Good morning wholesomm!

Since your site is hosted on BlueHost, that’s where you need to go to access it. You are probably getting email from both .com and .org because you set up a .com account in addition to your BlueHost account.

I have set up sites on BlueHost. Here is how you get to your WordPress site on BlueHost:
Go to BlueHost.com and click the little login button at the top right.
Click the hosting login button and then enter your login info and click submit.
You should get a screen that says Welcome, <your name>. On this screen click the “Log in to WordPress” button or the “My Sites” button. Either will take you to your site.

Sometimes you will have different login credentials for the WordPress area than for your other BlueHost stuff. If you have any trouble loggin in, contact BlueHost and they will help you.

    I hope this helps!
