Unable to access the site www.shoutyourname.com I've received numerous error msg

  • Unknown's avatar

I administer my cousin’s site http://www.shoutyourname.com. The site is hosted on GoDaddy, but we set up the software here on wordpress. It ran fine for about a year.

I moved geographically within the state and for the past 2 months or so I have been unable to access the site.
At first I was getting error messages on both Internet Explorer and Firefox about the site not being found, later Yahoo error messages said that Yahoo had determined the site was dangerous (?) and would not access it.

I’ve been round and round with Yahoo and Microsoft. Now when I sign in to WordPress and go to my site manager, Firefox tells me ‘this site cannot be accessed’ with a warning sign. ??????? If I try Internet Explorer, it redirects to a ‘searchus.com’ page with the http://www.shoutyourname.com prefilled in the search box. The search box brings up several options (Amazon, the SYN site, etc) and if I click on the Shout Your Name website, it redirects to http://www.ccs.infospace.com

WHY can’t I access this site I am SUPPOSED to be maintaining.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

I am able to access the site without issue. This sounds like you may have potential malware/adware issues with the computer you are using. Are you able to try on another computer?

Also try using something like malwarebytes to run a scan and make sure your browsers haven’t been hijacked by nefarious software.

Hey there, you’ve posted your question in the forums for sites hosted on WordPress.com.

Help for self-hosted sites can be found over at https://wordpress.org/support/ If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums, you’ll need to register one there.

For clarity about the difference between WP and WPcom, you might want to read this https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Thank you. Malwarebytes found a couple viruses that went through the malware security program I have running now (WILFORDdotBIZ and MYWORDTOOLsomething – filename was truncated).

I re-booted and neither Firefox nor Internet Explorer would allow me to the website.

    Thanks for trying.

@songscouting For further assistance on your self-hosted site using the standalone WP software, please head over to the forums at https://wordpress.org/support/ or check with your webhosting service.

These are the forums for the sites hosted by WordPress.com. We won’t be able to give you the full kind of assistance you require because we don’t use the same software here.

    Cheers and best wishes.

Yes – I got your first message.

After I ran the new anti-malware program, I tried to go to the other forums using your link.

It didn’t take my password, so I had to reset it and wait for the new password. Now the NEW password I received in the email doesn’t work.

I am still TRYING to get to the correct forum. And I STILL can’t log in to the shoutyourname site.

I’m sorry for your troubles, but WPcom and WP are entirely separate.

The support forums are entirely separate, which means

If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums, you’ll need to register one there.

Hope you’ll get things sorted. I’ll also tag this for Staff assistance. Maybe they can put you on the right track.

    Hi there,

You can sign up for an account for the WordPress.org forums account here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/register.php

I’d also recommend contacting your web host for more help if you continue to have trouble with that site. Best of luck!

Thank you for your suggestion, but as you can see from post 3, 5, and 6 – –
I HAVE a WordPress.org account from an issue a couple years ago setting up the site.
I simply posted in the wrong place.
When I went to the WordPress.org forums, it didn’t like my password – I had to reset it and wait for a new password and then it didn’t like the reset either. Like I wasn’t having ENOUGH probems.

Eventually I was able to sign in and post this thread there.

You can’t see the thread there – but I already contacted the web host who said “they could access the site fine – not their problem”.

The WordPress.org site said “they can access the site fine – not their problem” and didn’t even bother to address the red warning signs that appeared on the site in my dashboard until about the third reply as an offhand remark.
“Not our problem – and by the way those red warning signs are jetpack”

I had always received excellent responses and problem-solving from THESE forums, so their cavalier “not our problem” and failure to address or even read my issues (I had to send the same data three times before they even bothered to read and address it) was an EXTREME disappointment.

    Hi songscouting,

Since the site at http://shoutyourname.com/ isn’t hosted at WordPress.com there’s not a lot I can do to help get it working for you, but I can offer some tips since you haven’t gotten anywhere with your web host or the volunteers in the WordPress.org forums:

    1. If you can’t access http://shoutyourname.com/ at all (even by directly clicking that link), I’d recommend contacting your internet service provider to see if the site is being blocked by them. (That’s possible, since your web host confirmed that the site is working on their end but you still can’t access it.)

    2. To log in to http://shoutyourname.com/ to manage it, you can go directly to the login page here: http://shoutyourname.com/wp-login.php

If you can access that page, you can use the “Lost your password?” link there to regain access. Otherwise, you can follow the WordPress.org guide to Resetting Your Password for more ways to regain access to that site.

Finally, if you continue to have trouble with the site, I’d recommend contacting your web host again for more assistance. Since they host the website, they are the best suited to help you with that site.

However, I can help clarify the issue you mentioned with the red warning signs on your WordPress.com dashboard:

The WordPress.org site said “they can access the site fine – not their problem” and didn’t even bother to address the red warning signs that appeared on the site in my dashboard until about the third reply as an offhand remark.
“Not our problem – and by the way those red warning signs are jetpack”

When you have a self-hosted WordPress site using the Jetpack plugin, that site is linked to your WordPress.com account and will appear on your WordPress.com dashboard. If there is a problem with the connection between the Jetpack plugin and WordPress.com, you will see a warning sign in your dashboard here.

That warning is appearing because Jetpack isn’t currently active on your self-hosted site. If Jetpack is removed from a self-hosted site, but not disconnected from your WordPress.com account first, you’ll see the site with that warning when you log in to WordPress.com. You can click the red warning sign and then click on “Disconnect site” to remove that site from your WordPress.com dashboard, if you want. (Unless you reactivate Jetpack on the site, you won’t be able to do anything with that site from your WordPress.com account anyway. If you plan to keep using Jetpack, you can wait and reactivate Jetpack on your self-hosted site once you regain access to it.)

Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

  • Unknown's avatar

See – that’s what I mean. This problem isn’t addressed by this forum, but you took the time to tell me what Jetpack is, why it’s an issue, and how to fix it when I’m able to get back on the shoutyourname website.

That’s what I was expecting in the other forum (my mistake).

It’s not a password problem with ShoutYourName – it was a password problem with the WordPress.org forums which is why it took an hour or more to get access to those forums and post my problem.

I can’t even get to Shout Your Name. The data I posted in the WordPress.org forums is I’ve tried:
1 – typing the address directly into the address bar
2- doing a websearch and clicking on the website in the results
3- logging in to my primary WordPress site, going to the dashboard and trying to switch sites.

I just tried your link for logging in to the site from WordPress without any results.

FYI – Microsoft had me do a complete wipe of my computer to see “if anything is blocking the site”. It wasn’t and now I have a computer with no data/programs (like I needed MORE problems). Not your issue – just more frustration.

I’m saving this post so I can address the Jetpack issue if I ever get back to the website.

    *sigh*

THANK YOU for sending the information

    PS –

I tried all three access attempts in two browsers in case it was a browser issue – but it wasn’t.
