Unable to Access & Use Old Domain URL after Domain Transfer
-
Hi,
I recently transferred my domain from WordPress.com to another domain registrar as per the instructions for domain transfer provided by WordPress.com here.
After the waiting period of transfer, the domain was able to transfer over to the new registrar.
However, to my disappointment and surprise, none of my site visitors can access, much less visit, its original domain URL at — https://jacwyn.com. This is even after updating the DNS records at the new registrar for the transferred domain.
When visiting the URL, it simply shows an error page stating that the browser cannot reach the site and establish a connection to it.
I followed all the steps provided in the instructions to a T but have still not been able to resolve this problem for days and find what to do exactly to fix this.
If anyone can provide help or guide me in the right direction, that would be much appreciated.
Note: I have also tried to reach WordPress Support as a business plan customer here but have not received any word since the initial request for help which was made more than 5 days ago…
Thanks in advance for any assistance and help from the community if anyone can.

Hi,
I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing issues accessing your site after transferring your domain. I’d be happy to help you resolve this.
When you transfer a domain to a new registrar, the DNS settings often reset to default. This means you’ll need to update your DNS records at your new registrar to point to your website’s hosting provider. Here are some steps you can follow:
- Update Your DNS Settings:
- Log in to your account at your new domain registrar.
- Navigate to the DNS management section for your domain.
- If your website is still hosted on WordPress.com, you’ll need to point your domain to WordPress.com’s servers by setting the following name servers:
ns1.wordpress.comns2.wordpress.comns3.wordpress.com
- If your website is hosted elsewhere, update the DNS records to point to your new hosting provider’s servers. They should provide you with the necessary DNS information.
- Check for DNS Propagation:
- After updating the DNS settings, it can take up to 48 hours for the changes to propagate worldwide, though it usually happens sooner.
- You can use tools like WhatsMyDNS.net to check the propagation status.
- Verify Website Hosting:
- Ensure that your website’s files are hosted and active on the server you’re pointing to.
- If your site is still on WordPress.com, make sure your WordPress.com site is still published and not set to private.
- Clear Your Browser Cache:
- Sometimes, cached data can cause loading issues. Try clearing your browser cache or accessing your site from a different browser or device.
Since you mentioned that you’re a Business Plan customer and haven’t received a response from support, I apologize for the delay. You can reach out directly to WordPress.com support through your account dashboard:
- Go to WordPress.com Contact Support
- Make sure you’re logged in to your account associated with the Business Plan to get priority support.
Please let me know if these steps help or if you need further assistance. I’m here to help you get your site back online.
