Unable to add/edit/delete DNS records due to validation error on existing record
-
Howdy!
I can’t edit any of my add-on domain’s current DNS records or add new ones.
I was trying to add a new TXT record as part of a gradual email host migration (several DNS changes to come).
But when I try to save the change, it fails with a message about a very old existing CNAME record that already exists on my domain:
‘Hostname is not in expected format: d8.’
I didn’t see an issue with that record (details at the bottom of this message), but it’s for a site that I since took online, so I tried to delete my d8 and http://www.d8 CNAME records to clear it up.
Same error. I tried changing its values – same error. I tried creating/editing/deleting other records and other types – same error, always about the ‘d8’ domain. I think I saw it complain once about the ‘hire’ or ‘fit’ CNAME.
So from what I can tell, I am locked out of making any DNS changes through this interface because its input validation fails for something I cannot change.
Are staff members able to reproduce this issue? If not, could they try deleting any of my CNAMEs to linode domains (and perhaps the CNAME http://www.d8 record)? I wonder if that would clear my validation error.
I ran into this error using both Firefox and Chromium.
Many thanks for your help! 🤠
That CNAME record (output from ‘dig d8.zekeweeks.com’ ) is:
d8.zekeweeks.com. 3600 IN CNAME lli117-113.members.linode.com.
and in the WordPress.com UI it shows as: CNAME d8 lli117-113.members.linode.com
WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: No
