Unable to add link
-
I am unable to add a link into a blog post. I am able to highlight the text, but when I click on the “add link” button, nothing shows up! I tried to do my post in “text” instead, but I am unable to click on that as well. I have tried Safari and Firefox, both up to date. And I’ve tried two different computers. Also cleared all of my cookies. Any idea what the problem is?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s weird.
Have you cleared browser cache?
If nothing works, I suggest you switch to text view and add hyperlinks as shown in the Page Jumps support document.

Same problem, specifically started after Dec 4. Links in images works fine, but not hyperlinks on words??? Also, if the link address is pasted into a post, the hyperlink does work for it. Just cannot hyperlink via the paperclip shortcut in posts or pages. Please help us WordPress!
My blog is https://cathliquotes.wordpress.com/

Do you mean that when you click on the “Insert/edit link” icon no module pops up? It is in the pop up module that you must add the destination link.

By “paperclip”, I presume you mean the “Insert/edit link” tab in the post editor admin menu. What happens when you click on it? Also asking clsivara, and singulibrium.

Thank you musicdoc1. Yes, the paperclip is the “insert/edit link” button in the post editor admin menu. When a word or phrase is highlighted and the insert/edit clicked, the module does pop up, but after the URL and title are added and the “add link” button clicked, in my case, the link is not made. The cursor in the highlighted text flips back up to a previous word and no hyperlink is ever made. If the Insert/edit link module is reopened, the box will remember the previous URL and Title if clicked, but the link code is not entered if the add link is clicked. Thus, the “insert/edit link” shortcut is just not working!

OK guys, looks like this is going to slowly fall down to the bottom of a list that will never get addressed. Sad, especially if we’re paying for this site. But nonetheless, I have found that I can get the hyperlink to work in the Text mode with the “link” button – that gives the same “module” as the “insert/link” button in the Visual mode, but here it actually adds the code. It would be really nice if someone from WordPress can look at this. It would probably be a pretty simple fix for someone who knows what they’re doing. But at least, maybe for some, there’s a workaround for now. Love you WordPress!

Hi everyone,
It sounds like there may be a couple different issues here, so I just want to make sure I understand what’s going on for everyone:
@clsivara — You mentioned that when you click the “add link” button, nothing shows up. I just want to confirm, does that mean nothing appears on the screen for you to enter the link?
Do you have any browser extensions or add-ons installed in either of your browsers?
@joe4life — You mentioned that the pop-up appears on the screen, but then the link you enter isn’t added. Does that happen for all links, no matter what link you enter there?
Also, can you please let me know what browser you’re using (including the version number)?
@don26812 and @singulibrium — Is your problem more like what clsivara or what joe4life described? Can you also tell me what browser you’re using (including the version number)?

Thank you Rachel for coming to our rescue. This is joe4life. 1st question: I’ve tried inserting different links, YouTube videos, even direct links to other pages in my website. Once the “add link” button is clicked, the cursor pops back to the beginning of the post. Note too that I mentioned the popup works fine from Text mode using “link”. Visual mode is the problem. And also, the “unlink” works fine in Visual mode. Question 2: My browser is Firefox 16.0.2 which is the latest my operating system can update to ( MAC OSX 10.5.8 ). But this problem just started after the 4th of Dec. and I’ve made no changes to the computer or the website other than adding daily posts. Thanks again for your help! Joe

Hi Joe, thanks for those details. Unfortunately, Firefox 16.0.2 is a fairly old version of Firefox, and it may not be able to handle all the features available now. Our team tries to support older browsers when possible, but after a certain point older browsers can’t keep up with improvements made with newer browsers in mind. I’d recommend trying out the latest version of another popular browser to see if that works better for you.

Firefox 16.0.2 was released on 26 October, 2012. There have been more than 40 new non-Beta regular and ESR (Extended Support Release) Firefox versions since then. There are no ESR versions of the FF 16 series.

I am unable to add a link – not in text or visual.
I click on the link icon, insert the URL, it shows up on the text page but not on visual. When I return to text, it’s gone.
Needless to say, nada on “View page.”
Driving me crazy. Whatz up with this? New WordPress problem?
p.s. I just paid this year’s subscription $30 for Custom Design. -
Well, http://www.sandraoffthestrip.com/ is not a WordPress.com blog, so you shouldn’t be buying upgrades for it. We cannot assist you with that website.

Ok raincoastser, I just clicked on my name and sandraoffthestrip.com came up. Definitely NOT WordPress so don’t know why it’s linked.
