unable to add text widget

  I would like to add some text to my sidebar. I click on Design, then Widget to get to the widget choices. I then click on Add Widget which transfers it to the Current Widgets Column. The moment I click on Edit in order to open the widget to add my text, the Widget disappears from the Current Widgets Column and switches back to the Available Widgets Column.

  Am I doing something wrong? By the way, I use the Contempt Theme.

  Before clicking edit, click the “save changes” button at the bottom of the widgets area and then click on edit. It’s an issue with some browsers.
