Unable to change domain servers in WordPress.com. Can someone help?

  Hello,

  I want to change domain name servers so I can transfer my domain from a WordPress.com server to a WordPress.org server. I have a web hosting account with Bluehost, and my domain name is registered with Network Solutions.

  In trying to change name servers through the WordPress.com dashboard (Store | My Domains | Edit Domain), I don’t have the option to change the Name Server. WordPress.com indicates that my domain registration has expired, yet my domain is not registered with WordPress.com–it is registered with Network Solutions. And my domain appears as glaciernordicclub.com, not as glaciernordicclub.wordpress.com.

  I validated my domain name at http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-helper/. Everything checks out OK.

  My primary blog is also set, as indicated by this message:

  Primary Blog is Set
  glaciernordicclub.com is set as the primary domain for glaciernordicclub.wordpress.com and will appear in the address bar when you visit the site.

  I’m confused. Perhaps my confusion lies in that even though my domain is *registered*, I still need to pay WordPress.com to *map* it?

  Can someone enlighten me?

  Since glaciernordicclub.com is registered with Network Solutions you need to change the name servers at network Solutions.

  Once you have your new site set up on BlueHost you no longer need to pay for domain mapping here

  it looks like glaciernordicclub.com has existed for some time and I assume it has also been mapped here for some time – so leave a note on your site here that you have moved – then set the old content to “Private” (not the whole blog) – or delete the old content so search engines will not be confused –

  if you delete the glaciernordicclub.wordpress.com then anyone that stumbles onto the old blog hits a wall – also if you use the JetPack Plugin you will need a blog here (no cost) for the stats to display in

  Thank you so much for explaining that, along with the recommendation to *not* delete/cancel my WordPress.com account.

  I logged in to my Network Solutions account and found where I needed to reassign the domain name servers.

  Resolved!
