Hi Philo and welcome to WordPress.com! :)

Can you let me know the exact steps you took to change your theme and if you saw any error messages that blocked the change? In addition, the name of the specific theme you were trying to change to would be helpful.

It should be possible to change your theme by navigating to My Site in the top left of WordPress.com and then selecting the Theme option from the left sidebar:

    https://wordpress.com/design/foodhaven2016.wordpress.com

Search for a theme via the above page and then choose the option to “Try & Customize.”

If you can let me know exactly what didn’t work through the above process, or if you tried another process that failed, I can help from there.

    Thanks!

    Hi siobhyb,

When I first start, I choose Sela as my theme but later I feel that canape should be more suitable but I’m unable to change, I don’t know why? There’s no error msg that makes it even stranger!

    Hi @foodhaven2016,

The theme currently active on foodhaven2016.wordpress.com is Canape.

It looks like you were successful in your theme switch. Great! :)

Browsers sometimes hold onto old pieces of information from websites in order to load those website quicker. This is known as caching and I wonder if it’s the reason that you’re still seeing Sela. Could you try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies? We have steps on how to do that here:

    Solve Common Browser Issues

When you activated Sela, some of its demo site’s dummy content and setting were imported to help you get set up. This does not happen by default when switching to other themes and the dummy content for Sela remained when you switched to Canape.

Would you like me to import some dummy content and settings from Canape’s demo site for you? To do this, I would first need to delete any posts, pages, and other content that you’ve published to your site.

Alternatively, you can start following the guidance here to get set up with the theme:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/canape/

I’d be happy to help with any questions too.

    Hi siobhyb,

So my theme is now canape, great thanks for letting me know.

I’ve published quite a few blog posts so I do not wish to delete them away. I’m happy with my simple website.

1 last qn: Is my website still lookable?

    Thanks n Best Regards!

    Hi @foodhaven2016,

You’re on the right track! :) I recommend removing the content that was carried over from the Sela. For example, the header image (with the desk and books) can be replaced by changing/removing the page’s featured image.

We have some guidance on featured images, including handy video walkthrough, here:

    Hi siobhyb,

Thanks for your suggestion. I will try to see how to remove the content tomorrow as I’m really new here.

By the way, how do I make sure my posts won’t disappear when I change something like changing my theme?

    Best Wishes,
    Philo

    Hi Philo,

Your posts and pages will never disappear after switching a theme. The only changes that may be lost on your site are theme-specific customisations, such as widgets, custom CSS, etc.

    Hi siobhyb,

I have some widgets on my website. How can I make sure they won’t disappear after I switched a theme?

Also how come my Facebook n Instagram widget appears on every page of my website?

    Sweet Dreams,
    Philo

    Hi Philo,

There are two possible ways to add a header image to a post/page with Sela:

    1. You can upload an image via the Header Image panel of the WordPress.com Customizer.

    2. You can upload a featured image to an individual post or page. Featured images will override any header image that’s been set.

It’s possible that the image you were trying to replace in Sela was a featured image that had been set on your page.

I can see that you’ve since switched to Orvis but hopefully the above information will be of use to you when experimenting in WordPress.com in the future, as many themes work in a similar way.

As for thoughts on your blog: You’re off to a good start! Your use of imagery is perfect for food blogging and is making me rather hungry. :)

I noticed that you’ve already published around twenty posts in the past couple of days.

Publishing frequently is definitely recommended but I wonder how sustainable your current pace is. Potential followers/visitors to your site may also not be able to keep up.

Did you know that you can schedule your posts to publish at a later date? We have guidance on doing just that here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/schedule-a-post/

Instead of publishing new content as soon as you’ve created it, you could schedule it to publish at a set time and therefore set a slower pace to the number of posts being published to your site per day.

I recommend following our blog, The Daily Post, for more community advice and tips.

You can introduce yourself on the weekly First Friday challenge to get some feedback and join in with the Community Pool. The blog is also home to frequent prompts, challenges, tips, and other sources of inspiration.

    Hi siobhyb,

Thanks so much for yr help n guidance, these few days I’ve learnt quite a lot from YOU n Youtube videos.

I’ve been experimenting on WordPress these few days! I will slow down on my blogging pace based on yr suggestion. Wow, can schedule a post on any date u want, that’s really convenient!

Later, I will take out all the Amazon Advertising on my website as I’m quitting my thought of becoming an Amazon Affiliate because it’s so hard to find a buyer!

    Have a great weekend ahead,
    Philo
