Unable to change widget contents

Well, this bug has now more than 24 hours life… It will be a record for WordPress staff.
Nevertheless, I have full trust in their skills.
WordPress is great and they have all my support in those hard times of distrust and desperation…
Go ahead, staff. You can do it !!!
Best regards

Any word yet on getting me that sandwich? I’m kind of hoping that all of the crap I did to my widjits in trying to fix them myself doesn’t come back if/when the widjits are restored.

i’ve been trying to edit my text widget but to no avail. replacing widgets with another is fine but what’s the point if you can’t customize it? it’s funny that the “feedback” tab is also broken on the sidebar widgets page but not on the dashboard… why?
-
thanks for posting this info and now i know where to look before going through FAQ and documentation. “Important Notices” is a great idea.

Couple of points:
- If nobody’s posting updates, that generally means they don’t have anything new to tell you. It’s a better use of Mark’s time to help people with problems that actually can be solved, rather than posting every five minutes that they’re no nearer resolving this.
- Rough estimates of when things will be fixed are a really bad idea, because something always happens to delay things and then you get everyone yelling ‘you said it would be done by now!’
- Random breakages are an unavoidable part of blogging on a free host that the owners like to test things on.
-
who made you the grand poohbah of blog-hosting level-headedness eh wank? sometimes making a noise gets results.

Thanks for the heads-up regarding the stuck widgets.

sometimes making a noise gets results.
Really? Around here? Can you think of any examples? In my experience making a noise just generates snarky responses and locked threads.

IMO wank has hit the nail on the head. Setting that aside, I have something else to put forward.
When something doesn’t work on the first go-round most of us try and try again. Very few of us immediately got to the forum and look for sticky posts.
So the question that arises for me has nothing to do with the widgets.
Why can’t important messages like this be posted on our dashboards?I would be delighted to see the Top Posts and Top Blogs listings that I rarely consult removed form my dashboard to provide the space for posting matters that pertain to these kind of issues instead.
How do others feel about that idea?
-
I must also say, not only cannot change my widgets, but I cannot change my theme! Which I was tring to do. I finally came here and saw the widget thingy was broke, but did you know the theme thingy is broke too? Errrrg!
-
excellent idea timethief. ‘blogger’ does something very similar. however, as far as wank’s ‘advice’ goes, he is the sort of person who will sit around waiting for the cavalry when everyone else is fighting in the ditches.

Why can’t important messages like this be posted on our dashboards?
@timethief:
I agree. Important messages should be easily viewable in the first place we see — our Dashboard. Global problems (such as this widget issue) that affect all users should be posted where all users will instantly see it when they log on — the Dashboard. When people have a problem, they want an immediate answer. Most people do not have the patience to click through multiple links and then browse around a forum all day. May be sad, but it’s true. -
that explains it.
Some days, I would really appreciate a killfilter on these forums. I can’t be dealing with clueless misogynists who haven’t mastered the shift button.
As regards status messages: it’s been raised before, many times, and the official response from support is that they can’t be bothered
