Unable to choose a domain for a new personal site a few questions

  • Unknown's avatar

I am looking at trying to set up a new site under the personal 2.99/month subscription. I have a number of questions and one issue so far:
-when I get to step 4 of 5 in the process of signing up – no matter what I type in the box it goes blank. Why is it not letting me search for a domain? Literally anything.
-does that price include hosting and all costs needed for the site?
-is there any other way to include Google analytics without having the premium business account?
-what is the best email method? it’d be ideal if there were more than one address capability without it getting extraordinarily expensive or complicated to implement. Is G suite the easiest?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

So – I have no idea how the blurb in here about that being the blog I need help with, but that is NOT the case. I am looking for help with a website (new), not an existing blog.

Without an answer to this, I cannot start my new website. Without starting the subscription, I don’t appear to be able to get help -not sure the logic in that? How do I get help with this?

  • Hi there,

-when I get to step 4 of 5 in the process of signing up – no matter what I type in the box it goes blank. Why is it not letting me search for a domain? Literally anything.

It shouldn’t do that. Can you please try clearing your browser cache and cookies and try again? If it still won’t work, please check if a different browser helps.

-does that price include hosting and all costs needed for the site?

Hosting on WordPress.com is free, with unlimited bandwith, security, backups and spam protection, and 3GB media storage included. Storage for posts and pages is unlimited.

All the plan gives you are additional feature that are completely optional.

-is there any other way to include Google analytics without having the premium business account?

Google Analytics and our advanced SEO tools are only available to Business Plan users. However, you can verify a free site with Google’s search console.

-what is the best email method? it’d be ideal if there were more than one address capability without it getting extraordinarily expensive or complicated to implement. Is G suite the easiest?

G Suite is the easiest, for the simple reason that if you register a domain with us, and then buy G Suite with us, your account is set up and connected to your domain automatically. And it uses the Gmail interface which is familiar to many people. But $50 a year can be a bit steep if you don’t need all the other features included in a G Suite account.

I use Zoho mail, because it’s free, but it also works very well, and like G Suite allows multiple aliases for the email address you set up.

We have setup instructions for both of these, as well as a few other services here:
