Unable to configure Windows Live Writer
-
While I admit to being a total newbie here, and think the blog page is ok, not being able to use Windows Live Writer 2011, is a major denial of service.
The February 2009 series of posts are both disingenuous, naive, and inaccurate.
Each time I try to log in to (email visible only to moderators and staff) (Old WL Spaces), I get an Error 504 message
I cannot now log into my blog using that App even though your website says I can because you do not provide me with a clear, cogent and logically understandable set of configuration instructions.
If the purpose of this upgrade was to provide a similar degree of functionality for for Windows Live Spaces people, then at present, in the area of using Windows Live Writer (v 2011; build 15.4.3001.809), you seem to fallen short.
Not an auspicious start:) -
First off, issues with Windows Live Writer are not universal. I emailed a friend just a few while ago after seeing your reported problem, and they are on 2011 and blogging here at wordpress.COM without an issue with it. WordPress is not blocking or denying anyone using WLW. People have been using it here for years.
-
TSP if they are doing that and are successful, please could you tell me the secret of their success cos I am at my wits end!
-
They’ve been using it here for a long time, so it hasn’t been a clean install and configuration, but an upgrade. There have been times before when a new version of WLW came out and people had issues and then the WLW team came out with an update. The wordpress side of things hasn’t been updated since the first part of July, so I suspect it is something on the WLW end.
Tell me exactly what is happening, and what error messages and the like you are getting.
-
I typed in what I believed to be my User Name…..charliestewart41
Then I typed in my password.
The error notice sais Server Error, http:// with a whole lot of letters and numbers which I could not copy out.
Error 405 Method Not Allowed
I have no idea what I am doing wrong.
-
@charlie, I’ve done some searching on the internet and don’t find anything that will help here. All I can suggest is to make sure that the URL you are using is the following for the connection point.
http://charliestewart41.wordpress.com/xmlrpc.php .
It sounds as if you are doing everything right.
It you try again and it does not work, contact staff directly on it at http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ . It could be they have an idea as to what is going on.

TPS that is what the URL is no wonder
Thing is I cannot change either the space or url, any tips?
-
You should be able to delete that set up, or add another one. I know my friend uses WLW to write for three different blogs. I don’t have any of my Windows PC’s here with me right now so I can’t look things over. All I have right now is my main computer, my Mac.

TSP hold front page.
My latest blog post on my space, reflects the success.
I added the WordSpace account, set it up, then deleted WL Space.
Many thanks.
-
Charlie, that is great! Congratulations, and you are most welcome.
I’ll remember this for future as well since I suspect we will be running into it again as people migrate over.
-
TSP, might I suggest that the forum support peoples make this procedure a sticky.
It might be a huge help to newbies coming over from WL Spaces.
It was thanks to your patience.
Thanks again.

I had this problem as well, even though I used the special “Migrate live writer account” link during the migration.
Creating a new blog account sorted it out fine.
If you are using WLW 2011, click on the “Home” tab and look for the blog account list in the “Publish” section. From there you can choose “Add a blog account…”
Choose the “other blog service” option. It will then ask you to put in your blog’s url e.g. http://thommck.wordpress.org and will sort the rest out for you, including downloading your blog’s theme properly :) -

We’re just super-touchy about that particular issue as some days a third of our questions come from people with .org blogs who are confused.
-
I seem to be having a similar problem using WL Writer 2011. I have not setup an account in WL Writer before and I am not able to get to the menu options without first settting up an existing blog. I am getting a slightly dif. error message:
A problem occurred while detecting blog settings
Unable to cast COM oject of type ‘mshtml.htmlmetaelementclass’ to interface type ‘mshtml.ihtmlelement’. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID ‘(bunch of letters and numbers)’ failed due to the following error; No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE)).
I already had a wordpress blog and chose the option to combine my WL Spaces with my existing WordPress blog….now this :( Any suggestions?

If you’re still having this issue, please try these:
1. remove your WordPress.com blog from Windows Live Writer (WLW) and add it again.
2. make sure that you have enough space to upload images. You can check this from Media > Media Library
3. try publishing a post without images or a few small images to see if it works.
4. use the latest version – WLW 2011.
5. Make sure your security software is not blocking WordPress.com.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Understanding-Windows-Firewall-settingsYou may also want to visit WLW support forum and see if any similar problem is posted.

I can’t use Window Live Writer to remote posting my blog. How can I set the remote posting web address? Where could I find it at wordpress.com?
-
When I entered the 2nd step, after I typed in the address and password on Windows Live Writer, I have to type in the remote posting web address.
What is the typical format of the address?
What is the xmlrpc mean?
