Unable to Configure WordPress Page
-
Hello, I’ve been trying for a few days now to configure my wordpress site. I’m not able to connect to my instagram account when trying to add widgets to the sidebar, none of my social media sites are linking up, and I’m unable to change the design of the page like the bubbles at the top. Please let me know how I can fix these issues, or please point me in the right direction for help in configuring new pages. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you! Kirsten

re: the front page error message found on every new .wordpress.com blog
There is nothing wrong with your blog.
By default, the front page of the blog is the only page that will display all published posts on it. As soon as you publish a post, not a page, the error message will be gone. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
For creating a post see here http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/#publish-a-new-post
For creating a page see here

A blog is a website. The difference between blog and website is simply structure and semantics.
A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.
What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one-way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds, and as others do not backlink to pages, it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.
Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based – no upgrade required. For greater clarity read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/

Thanks for your reply timethief! I’m going through some of the links you provided now and managed to connect my social media accounts :))
Is there a way to change the appearance of the icons to make them large black boxes as shown in the Adelle demo rather than small pink circles?
Also, can I create an about me image and paragraph on the right hand column, without it being through about.me? I just want it to link to another page within the blog that I’ll create.
Thanks!!

That requires an upgrade and CSS editing. See here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/unable-to-configure-wordpress-page?replies=5#post-2539294

Please allow me to be blunt. Forget the fiddling and widdling with widgets and publish some posts and pages first, so you have content to work with.
