Unable to connect too wordpress.com

    Hi I’m on OSX 10.14.6 and I’ve been unable to connect with the app.

    At app launch I get “Unable to connect to WordPress.com (try again).”
    Nothing happens when I click on (try again).

    I have this message since I updated the app around 1/2 weeks ago.
    I’ve checked all firewall settings and router settings but couldn’t find anything.

    I can still access everything through my browser, it’s just the app that is not working.

    What’s the version of the app you’re using? Have you tried to re-install the app already? If not, please try that and let us know if the issue persists.

    Hi,

    I’ve re-installed the app and still get the same message.

    I updated earlier today to 4.6.0 and the problem started with the version before this one.

  • I see, do I understand correctly that you see this error message before you’re able to type in your login credentials?
    Would you be able to test this with a different internet source, like a coffee shop Wi-Fi or your mobile connection?

    Yes , it’s pure the App that I’m trying to run from my iMac.

    I launch the app, I get a white window and on the bottom marked in yellow it says “Unable to connect to WordPress.com (try again). Clicking on (Try Again) refreshes the app window.

    I have disabled my wired network and tried Wifi. Still the same issue

    I have logged in through Safari to show u what I see when I open the app.

    also the desktop app on my windows does work. so its only on my iMac.

  • Which version of the app is installed on the iMac? Can you delete it and try reinstalling it again to see if it makes a difference?

    Hello, I already was being helped by a lady from staff. just to let you know in case you were not aware of this :)

    I’m running 4.6.0 (updated earlier today) the version before this one is where the problem started.
    I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled a few times but the problem remains.
    I’ve checked firewall anti-virus (not running any of those) and router settings.
    nothing is being blocked as far as I can see.

    it works on my windows computer.. but its only on my iMac where i am unable to connect to WordPress.com. I don’t get to enter anything.
    I can also access everything through the browser. so its basicly something that’s preventing the app to launch properly

  • Hi @ricardobadal, it’s just late for the first person you were working with.

    Here’s the information we have so far:

    – You’re running 4.6.0
    – on OSX 10.14.6
    – You can connect to WordPress.com from a browser
    – You’ve checked your firewall in case it’s blocking the app
    – You’ve uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail

    Would you be willing to uninstall once more, and completely clear out the data prior to reinstalling? Here’s how:

    On Mac, fully uninstalling the app involves a few steps:

    Trash the app from the /Applications directory
    Delete ~/Library/Application Support/WordPress.com
    Delete ~/Library/Caches/WordPress.com
    Delete ~/Library/Caches/com.automattic.wordpress
    Delete ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.automattic.wordpress.savedState

    Then you can go ahead and reinstall again. When you do, please log into your WordPress.com account first rather than connecting a self-hosted site first.

    Thank you, the first time it didn’t work.. I did the second time and now it’s fixed.
    I’m currently logged in through the app!

    I’ve got the instant login screen now.
