Unable to create desired username though WP says it doesn't exist.
-
Hello.
I just created a blog unsexymemoir.wordpress.com and would prefer to have an independent username unsexymemoir attached to instead of my professional profile vmkirin. I checked that unsexymemoir as a USERNAME is available, but when I try to create the profile WP tells me it’s unavailable. I’m stuck in a catch22. I can provide screen shots.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, but under a different username. When I try to reset the password as if the username existed, I get the alert that it doesn’t exist. Screen shots: http://imgur.com/a/ak6Jn

Hi there,
As you’ve already registered the address, unsexymemoir.wordpress.com, the matching username is unavailable. Registering a username reserves the matching blog URL, and vice versa.
You created that site under the username you’re using to post here, @vmkirin, not under a different username as you said in your previous reply.
To use that username you’ll first need to create a new account with a completely different username. Log out of this account, and create a brand new account with a completely random username:
https://wordpress.com/start/account/user/
After you’ve done that, log back into this account, and transfer ownership of the site to the new username:
Transferring a Site to Another WordPress.com Account
Then log back into the new account, and CHANGE that account’s username to the one that matches the site URL. As that account will at that point own the site, it will be able to claim the matching username.
