unable to create follow me button
-
I had some help with this but the suggestions didn’t work, and I might have left it too long without posting in the conversation, so I am putting my question here in case anyone can help.
I’m afraid I need more help with my ‘follow me’ button.
There is no follow me option anywhere on my site whether I am logged in or out.
So I tried to install the Follow Blog widget suggested but when I tried this there is no option to create one, and the customiser doesn’t look like the one in the tutorial. I can only add other widgets that are already there, such as RSS and Meta, but I don’t know what any of this means or does and there are no follow options.
I then tried the follow button generator you suggested, but when I pressed the generator this appeared which I couldn’t make sense of:Try out your button, then copy and paste the code below into the HTML for your site. (THERE WAS NO BUTTON OR CODE)
Please check you’ve entered the address of a WordPress.com or Jetpack-powered site and try again. (I JUST PUT IN http://www.open-return.com)
So what am I doing wrong? I am a real beginner and don’t understand jargon (I don’t know what HTML is or jetpack or things like that) so please any explanations of process would be good.
Many thanks for your help in advance!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
http://open-return.com/ is not a WordPress.com site, so the WordPress.com follow button won’t be visible on that site and our instructions for a follow button won’t work.
Do you have the Jetpack plugin installed on that site? If Jetpack is installed, connected to your WordPress.com account, and you have Jetpack widgets enabled, you should be able to add a blog subscription widget under Appearance ->Widgets in the dashboard.
For more help with this you’ll need to post in the WordPress.org forums, as those are the correct forums for your version of WordPress.

Thank you for your help!
I didn’t know the .com was different from the .org, or that I had a dot org site. I now have jetpack plugin installed but I don’t understand what some of this means and am unsure what to do next. I am not really on social media yet so do you know how I might configure a simple ‘subscribe’ button so people can get email updates?
Many thanks for your answers! -
Ok, I see how simple it is to do and have done it. One other question I have is when people subscribe with an email can they elect how often they get notifications or do they get an email every time we post?
Thank you -

People who subscribe via the Jetpack plugin set their own email notification settings to receive instant emails, or daily/weekly digests. Jetpack uses WordPress.com subscriptions, so they manage their subscriptions via our interface.
