Unable to create .wordpress site

For some reason, I cannot create a site with a .wordpress extension. Instead, the only options given for free are .water.blog. I simply want a site such as “example.wordpress.com” but am unable to do so currently.

No matter what I type, the only options it gives me for free are “.water.blog.” I have to create a wordpress blog for my class and this is very frustrating

When creating a new site, please skip the first step that asks you what type of site you wish to make. Then you should have the option to select a WordPress.com address on the pick a domain step.
