Unable to edit anything in blog

Hi,
I started a new blog a while ago but have not tried to write a post until now, and now I am unable to do anything with my blog.
I have tried to write a new post, or edit the example post that is there but all i get is an error message:
“An error occurred while saving the post.
That method is not allowed.”It won’t let me save, preview, edit or post. I have searched for similar problems on here but unable to find a solution.
I have tried using both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.

Hi there. Have you verified your email address? When you created your account you would have received an email with an activation link. You won’t be able to publish any content before you click that link.
If you don’t recall getting such an email, please check on your dashboard for a link giving you the option to resend that email. Then make sure that it isn’t landing in the Spam folder of your email account.
If you can’t find the link to resend the email, or if this is not the problem, let us know.

Thank you. I believe that I would have verified, although i cannot find an email either in my inbox or spam folder.
When i first created the site, I was able to change the header, the picture and theme on the site, but now I’m not even able to change my profile details.

Having rechecked my emails, I can confirm that i did activate my email address, so it must be something else.

Okay. Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/
I’m also tagging it for staff to follow up so they can check if it might be an issue with your account. If clearing the cache doesn’t help, let us know and then be patient while waiting for staff’s reply.

Thank you for your continued help. I have cleared my history, cache and cookies and I still get the same issues. I will wait for a staff reply.

Just to add, after looking at my “Reader” this appears to be down as well. When i click on “Followed Sites” it loads but then nothing appears. I cannot see any sites listed.
I can look at “Freshly Pressed” but nothing else, not even my settings.
Can anyone see if I have verified my email as suggested above? I believe I have but if this is a quick fix then that would be great!

Staff are taking a bit long to respond, but there’s usually a bit of a backlog after the weekend. I know the wait is frustrating, but perhaps you can compile your posts offline in the meantime? I’d recommend a plain text editor rather than a word processor, to prevent possible formatting issues when copying it to your site. It’s not ideal, I know, but at least you’ll get some work done while you wait.

Hi kokkieh,
I have just used a different computer to try and write a post and i received no such error. Which puzzles me.
The only thing I can see that’s different is the URL on my work computer (the one that doesn’t work) has a red slash on https:// but my personal computer doesn’t.
Could this be the reason? if so, is there any way to stop this?

The red slash through https on Chrome means there’s some problem with the secure connection. I’m afraid I don’t know if that can prevent you from editing posts, but I’m sure the extra information will help staff narrow down the problem when they respond.

Hi @retrogamer90 — are you using the newer, blue editor to add posts, or are you using wp-admin?
Also, are you able to save drafts? Let us know and we’ll go from there.

Unsure of whether I am using the newer, blue editor or not…I am just clicking the pencil sign in the top right. It then comes up with beep beep boop and then the error message.
I am unable to save, publish, or edit on my work computer (where the red slash through https appears) but I can do all of this on my personal computer (where there is no slash)

That is the new editor, yes. Can you also check what happens if you use the WP-Admin editor? Go to http://adventuresofaretrogamer.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ and click on Posts ->All Posts ->Edit/Add New.
Let us know what happens in that editor.

Thank you for your help so far, I have published my first post! (woooo!) however I was hoping that if anyone went to my homepage (i.e. https://adventuresofaretrogamer.wordpress.com/) that they would find a page with just all of my blog posts on it, where there would also be a category part for them to just read certain blogs etc. However at the moment there is a “home” page that has an example post on it.
Is there anyway to make my “home” page just a page with all my posts on it?
sorry if i don’t make sense or this is something really simple.

At the moment it appears you have your default About page set as your home page. Go to the link I gave above again and click on Settings ->Reading. Where it says Front Page Displays, select Latest Posts. Save settings. This will have all your posts display on the home page while that page will be reachable via the menu.

If you want posts of a specific category to appear on their own page you need to use a custom menu to set up a category page. You can’t use a category page for your home page. See these links for detailed instructions: http://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/

@supernovia To summarise, basically the new part of wordpress, the reader, my site and edit/new post is not working on my work computer but the old dashboard is still working.
