Unable to eliminate Blogroll category

I am working on setting up new content and am having trouble removing the Blogroll category. I’ve navigated to the categories link and found the Blogroll category, but only had the option to Edit or Quick Edit. So, I opted for Quick Edit and changed the name to something else. Next, after the page refreshed, the Delete option appeared. I deleted the category, but it still appears on the side menu on the site.

I’ve also gone to the widgets page and moved ‘Links’ down to the inactive area. Still, it’s there. Anyone have any suggestions for how I can get rid of it?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Links have to have at least one category assigned to them or the system will create one. You also have to have a default category set for links otherwise wordpress will create its own.

Go to settings > writing and set the default links category to the one that you made (renamed).

You might have to go to links > edit and change reassign the correct category to the links, and if the blogroll category is assigned to them also, un-assign it.

There is a default theme generated sample set of widgets that will show in the sidebar until you actually add a widget to the sidebar. Once you add a widget, the default set will go away. You can then add in the widgets you wish.
