unable to follow blogs

  I have been trying to follow more blogs and am unable.
  This has been happening for over a week. I get the red bar message:
  ‘Sorry, we couldn’t follow this site. Please try again in a while’

  And although I have gotten several new followers, my number has stayed the same for a couple of weeks:
  1798 followers

  Please advise

  Still no resolution.
  I know the best way to get more followers is to follow others, but wordpress is not letting me follow anyone.
  Is there a ceiling (similar to twitter?) If so what is the limit?
  Please advise.
