unable to follow other blogs

I have become unable to follow other blogs. Months ago, I noticed a problem with one blog, but now it seems to be the case with all of the blogs I try to follow. Also, as from yesterday, I’ve stopped receiving notifications of new posts from those who I’m already following.

I have become unable to follow other blogs.
The Reader stopped working correctly due to the number of sites you followed and the follow feature has been disabled in order to prevent any further issues.
This feature is intended for following posts on a reasonable number of sites — not for showing approval or promotion of your sites.
I’ve stopped receiving notifications of new posts from those who I’m already following.
Email updates are currently blocked in your Reader Subscription settings:

If you want to receive email notification from blogs you follow, please untick the following option:
> Block all email updates from blogs you’re following on WordPress.com

Thank you for the advice. I’ve now managed to unblock my notifications, but I still can’t follow any new blogs. despite the fact that over the past few weeks I have unfollowed quite a few. Today I ceased following several that I wanted to keep, in order to sort the problem out, but it didn’t help. It appears that my motives have been totally misunderstood. I never follow blogs in order to draw attention, and it offends me when others do that to me. I don’t like being followed by folks who aren’t interested in either me or my poetry.
I’m currently following 78 sites, and I estimate that I’ve followed about two hundred in total over the past three years, since I began blogging – although it might be more, since I try to encourage new bloggers who interest me. I don’t like to see a good writer – or someone who has something they need to say – being ignored. However, my life is complicated, and I don’t often manage to keep up with the reading that I wish to do.
I’m guessing that, no matter how many blogs I cease following, I still won’t be able to follow any other blogs. Is there anything else I can do?

That’s correct — unfollowing blogs won’t make any difference in this instance.
We’ve been able to re-enable the follow feature on your account. If the Reader stops working again, we not be able to do the same next time. As long as you continue to follow a reasonable number of blog you should be okay.

Thank you for sorting out this issue so quickly. Since I haven’t been in the habit of following huge numbers of blogs, and several of my blogging friends have followed a similar amount of blogs as me without encountering this problem, could it be that something else caused WP to block the feature – for example, me not getting around to reading posts on some of the blogs I followed?
If it was down to me following too many blogs, would you be so kind as to give me some idea as to how many blogs I can follow in a month without this happening again? -

I’m unable to give you an exact figure because our system also takes other factors into consideration too. If you are following blogs for personal use and at a reasonable rate, there shouldn’t be any issues going forward.
