Unable to get image editor to open on images that are on already on a page.

While on Edit page, when I put my mouse cursor arrow over an image
the cursor becomes a vertical bar as if it is within a text field (instead of the arrow). The “edit” and “x-out” icons won’t appear when I click on the image and I can’t get the image editor to open. This just started today as I was editing content of a page.

  • Hi there,

Can you tell me what post you’re editing, and which editor you’re using? (The new one or the classic one.) That will help me troubleshoot your problem.

    Thanks!
    Pam

    Hi Pam,

I was in classic view when the problem started, but that doesn’t seem to be the issue. I have since found out that the editor works fine on my older laptop regardless of classic or new editor, but neither one functions on my newer touch screen laptop. The editor used to work fine on either machine. I tested it simultaneously and indeed it functions perfectly in new mode or classic mode on my older computer, but neither editor mode works on the my other laptop.

I am running chrome on both machines and both are running windows 8. The only difference is one is a 64 bit and the other 32 bit.

    Puzzled. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Bob Nelson

  • Hi Bob,

That is puzzling. I’m going to look into this to see if anyone else has mentioned issues with touch screen laptops and editing images in posts. You said you were using a mouse, not the touch screen? And this only started recently? Have you added any programs or browser extensions recently to your newer laptop?

    Thanks!
    Pam

    Hi Pam,
Huh? I just tried a little experiment and it worked! If I click an image with the mouse, the “X” and “edit” icons appear in the upper left corner of image as always. However, clicking on them with mouse does nothing, but if i touch them, the editor opens!

Wow! Who knew?! Apparently you suspected something there.

Do you know if there is a setting on the mouse that I need to change?

The mouse works fine on every other site or application; and is mostly interchangeable with touch everywhere else.

You solved it. Great job, Pam. I probably would have never stumbled onto it myself.

    Thanks!

  • Very interesting! I don’t have any experience with touch-screen laptops, but I will ask around to see if anyone knows of any settings that might be affecting this. There may be something in our code that’s causing this issue, so I’ll be sure to let our developers know.

If I hear anything, I’ll let you know!

    All the best,
    Pam
