Unable to install WordPress on Hostgator

  • Unknown's avatar

i got my domain name (Godaddy) and host (on hostgator) yesterday, then registered with wordpress thinking i could use my domain name on wordpress. after creating the account, and accidentally paying for a domain under WordPress thinking it was my hostgator account, i deleted my wordpress account so i could install wordpress on Quickinstall in Hostgator. Unfortunately, when I use quickinstall, it won’t bring me to the ‘admin’ page on WordPress, but just says, “deangarlick.wordpress.com doesn’t exist”.

    Hello there,
That is not a free hosted WordPress.COM blog. We provide support only for free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and you are posting to the wrong support forum.

WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate, have different log-ins and run different versions of themes with same names.

If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

Okay I read that again more carefully. You deleted the blog you want to map from to the domain hence you are going to need Staff to sort this out with you. I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

It looks like you purchased domain mapping for the domain deangarlick.com, and subsequently cancelled that purchase, which as you rightly determined is unnecessary if you are hosting your site elsewhere.

Currently it looks like the domain (which was registered via Go Daddy) is properly pointing to Hostgator, so there shouldn’t be anything further that needs to be done with the domain. From here, if you are still having difficulties with this issue, you will need to contact Hostgator for assistance.
