Unable to load data from a previous platform of WordPress.

I have lots of data on a previous wordpress platform that I am unable to access that I wish to use here on my new upgraded blog.
The files are at my website host. I upgraded as a way to bring these files to my new wordpress site because there was no other way to transfer data. Please advise.

Hi Greg,
What are the addresses of the old and new sites (or are they the same?)
From the old site, if you use the Tools->Export feature to produce a file that can be imported into your WordPress.com site, if that’s the end goal.
Cheers!

Kraft,
Yes, both site are at the same address. When I upgraded to the most recent version, I lost the login. The old login user was admin, the other account may have been in wordpress.org, instead of wordpress.com. Then I upgraded to wordpress.com. but there are wordpress php files still at my main website host of fatcow.com under the subdirectory of RevisedJourneytoYourself under the file manager at Fatcow.
After upgrading had to create new user name on the wordpress.com platform called greggarceau. But all the data of the previous themes setup is inaccessible. I tried transfer the domain to one of my other subdomains, then tried Windows Azure to reestablish a connection, then changed the server names to the wordpress servers that I am now using. The data is actually on a different server. I wondered if it was still on the fatcow server, but I also in my efforts set up briefly a server at fastdomain, and decided it was easier to do what I did by setting up this web site domain at the wordpress servers. The main domain where all these php files are were and still are through fatcow’s file manager is http://www.journeytoyourself.com, or journeytoyourself.com, never journeytoyourself.org, or any other domain name. the actual data for journeytoyourself.com is located in the fatcow subdirectory of RevisedJourneytoYourself on fatcow’s servers. So that is the situation at this point.
Maybe you can help me to redirect my wordpress upgrade to read and access the old themes of my journeytoyourself.com domain at fatcow. but I am okay with the upgraded 2014 themes but want the data from the other php data elements to use. There is a lot of text that I would like to transfer to this new wordpress upgrade.Anyway, confusing,
Looking forward to any help you can provide. Thanks so much for getting back to me. This has been a month and a half long process to reset everything up, and it would be great if I could access some of my other php files that support wordpress and use them. Now that I have an editor login, I know I can retrieve old files that were on the older version I have been trying to upgrade to wordpress new version.

Hi Greg,
I can see where this last month or so would be so frustrating!
If some of this is review, I apologize. I want to be sure we’re both on the same page playing with the same deck of cards.
Your previous site (with the “admin” login) was using the WordPress.org software on FastCow. WordPress.com is notably different in how we manage sites and how much access users have to PHP, etc. (More about the difference at WordPress.com and WordPress.org).
In short, we take care of all of the code and servers, you take care of the content. If you want to use modified code or tinker on that level, or use plugins or themes not found at http://themes.wordpress.com/ , WordPress.com isn’t a good fit for you.
Since your nameservers have been changed over to the WordPress.com ones, we can’t access your old server at FastCow by using your domain name. Some hosting providers have a “development” address that you can access your site (some are something like “randomservername.fastcow.com/~username/” while others are like “123.324.123.1/~username”, or “user.hostingcompany.com”.
By contacting FastCow’s support, they would be the best bet on how to access your previous data.
Long-term, deciding if you want to go with WordPress.com and foregoing the ability to modify code is what you’d like or going back to a WordPress.org-based setup is next.
If you’d like to go back to WordPress.org, I’d suggest changing your nameservers back to FastCow and work on regaining access to your site. The WordPress.org support “codex” has a page with all of the various ways to reset/change your password: http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password . One of these solutions will let you reset the password to the lost account.
Please let me know if I missed anything above and if I can direct you better.
Cheers!
