Hello @vgigafibernet! I’d be happy to help you with this.
After checking your site, I see that the text you’re trying to use isn’t in the right format to add a map. To add your map correctly, you’ll need to copy the embed code from Google Maps and then paste it into a Custom HTML block on your page.
We have a guide that shows you exactly how to do this. You can find it here:
https://wordpress.com/support/google-maps/
Feel free to follow these steps, and let me know how it goes!
Also, when you mentioned “auto scroll,” could you let us know a bit more about what you’re trying to do there? We’d love to understand better so we can help further. And since you’re on a paid plan, you can also email us directly at help@wordpress.com for more direct help.
Looking forward to hearing back from you! We’ll be here, ready to help. -
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Even after pasting google maps embed code in custom html block, still it’s short code in live website. but showing maps in preview mode. Let me know if I’m doing anything wrong.
More info about auto scroll.
As you see in my website I have few nav options like about us, contact, and plans.
for example if user clicks on plans, the website should auto scroll to the plans section in the homepage. Hope you understand.
Thanks,
Sandeep -
Hi Sandeep,
Thanks for clarifying those! I investigated this further and found that the embed not working on homepage templates is actually a known issue. I’ve notified our developers again so that they can look into it. However, we don’t have an ETA for a fix.
In the meantime, I thought of a couple of alternatives you could try:
Use the Map block
Use the Map block to display an interactive map (powered by Apple Maps) showing one or more locations. This guide will show you how to display a map on your website. Add a Map Block To add the Map block, click the + Block Inserter icon and search for “map”. Click to add the block to a page, post, or template. 💡 Using your keyboard, you can also type /map on a new line and pIt uses Apple Maps instead of Google Maps. Depending on the location you’re inserting, it may be sufficient? :)
Insert a picture of the Google Maps location and link it to a different page
The Google Maps embed will work on any posts and pages. It’s only not working on the Site Editor/homepage template. You could update the About page at
https://vgigafiber.com/about/and insert the Google Maps embed. Then, take a screenshot of the map area and insert it into the homepage. You can add a link to that image so visitors go to the About page when they click on that map screenshot. While this is not ideal, it could work as a temporary workaround. :)
About the auto-scrolls
It sounds like you’re referring to page jumps or anchor links, where visitors are taken to a specific section of a page when they click on a link. We have a detailed guide with a video for you :) Please check it out below:
Page jumping, also referred to as anchor links or jump links, is where you click a link and instantly get moved somewhere further up or down a long page. The Table of Contents to the right is an example of page jumps. Why Use Page Jumps? A page jump is a great way to link to a section of a page. Your site visitors can click to go from one part of a long page to another part of that same paPlease follow the steps there and let me know if you need help with any of the steps :)
