unable to log in?
-
hey i have been having this ongoing issue where i can not log into wordpress using the “log in” button on my homepage? when i click the button it takes me to the log on screen, i enter my credentials hit enter and it looks like it’s going to load and then my credentials disappear….if i try to enter my info again, the same things happens.
i have tried logging multiple times in a row sometimes 15 or more times…and for what reason it will not allow me to log on, my only option is to click the wordpress logo (above where you enter your credentials) and log in from there….and oddly enough it works?
this has been an ongoing issue for me for quite some time, i dont quite have any explaination as to why it is happening, but it appears as though i can log in from anywhere on this site, other then from my blog homepage? i have deleted my cache/cookies/passwords and other files and as well as closed IE9 and reopened it with no luck.
Ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions?

I had the same problem months ago, but because I’m based in China, I thought it was some ploy by the Internet watchdog here to discourage the use of WordPress blogs while not blocking the service altogether.
I didn’t think or suspect it might be a problem elsewhere in the world because parts of WP (e.g. the premium services page) do seem to be inaccessible without a VPN. And even if I had wondered this, I wouldn’t have expected WP to be able to deal with problems which I believed were being caused by some external agency.
I’ll be interested to find out whether there’s an answer.

^^ interesting….i am not sure if that is the situation in my case, where i am in Canada, its odd because for the longest time i was able to log in via my homepage and one day it just stopped working…unfortunately i cant pinpoint which day that was..

I am going crazy today not being able to log in…’New Log in Page’ it says merrily, but with no way to do it. It used to do it automatically…and it appears to half let me in a bit even to manipulate things but doesn’t show me my blog or all the headings for action or anything in the proper way (eg dashboard etc) What IS going on? And there is no log in page as such to be found by Googling WordPress.Com. HELP!!! I need to do stuff.
Would really appreciate an answer. I use Firefox as a browser…is that the problem?
Thanks! -
@johnjutton1965: You answered your question yourself: the Great Firewall of China might be interfering.
@djcityboy: I tagged this thread so that (hopefully) staff takes a look.
@matcham1: Are you referring to juliamatcham.wordpress.com? Then the URL to access your dashboard is http://juliamatcham.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
If you have more than one username, make sure you are using the right one, or you may not have access to all the features you are used to. -
Thanks, but that just gets me through to the dashboard, not allowing me to jump from one place to another visually or see my blog how it used to be …negotiable and with all its headings!!! Particiularly the word BLOG! Not only that, but anyone could guess that format which doesn’t seem a good idea if it allows password-free action, which it appeared to?
I only have one user name.
There is nowhere where I have been able to use my password except here, and here I don’t have access to my BLOG which wold be usual at the top if I remember rightly.
Oh dear. Is this a temporary blip of have you changed stuff for the worse?
Thanks for your help anyway. -
@matcham1: I don’t understand what you mean by “jump from one place to another visually”. What exactly are you looking to do? Edit your blog or simply viewing it?
If the link I gave you did not prompt you to enter a password, it’s probably because you were already logged in. Log out and click on the link. It should ask you for your username and password.

OK…I have just understood what is going on…WHY did WP have to change it…what gain was there? I realise now I WAS logged in, but that isn’t clear until you get the end of the drop down and click on the name of the blog. Thats two unecessary clicks (and knowing which ones) in order to get to the blog itself which is where I for one always start. I edit and view when necessary. Now I see I get at facillities (eg dashboard) by a drop down on the left instead of handy headings on the top bar. Once again extra clicks.
What was the point when originally all that was there instantly the moment one went to the log-in page? So delightfully SIMPLE! Thats life.
Anyway thanks… I should have spent longer working it out for myself. -

^^ now thats even more weird…
i have just forwarded my original email back to the email addy above…keep me posted on if it is recieved, i meant to attach a read reciept but forgot at the last minute…doh!
thanks..
-
timethief…Thank you, I’ve just checked your references (above)…and see that the changes serve a few people who are doing the sort of complicated stuff I have no idea of……but also that a lot of us (main thread and at a cursory glance) find it a painful bore as I do. I will read more tomorrow. It has already cost me a lot of time. Yes, as someone said…keep it SIMPLE. It is some consolation not to be alone in having been completely thrown by supposedly advantageous changes…all of which will be even more problematical for newcomers trying to fight their way through the fog, as I did! And now, still am!
Anyway thanks. Julia -
djcityboy, we haven’t received anything from you yet. Are you sure that you’re sending it to support@wordpress.com?
Maybe try just sending a new email, no forwarding.
