Unable to log in to free WordPress account after I changed site URL
-
Hello,
I volunteered to help an acquaintance with his WordPress site and since I’m also new to WordPress, I’ve gotten into trouble already.
While trying to fix broken links to the audio files on his site, I foolishly changed the Home and Site URL from General Settings in the Dashboard. Now I can’t log back in to the dashboard.
I’ve read the suggested solutions here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL
but none of the php files mentioned are on my computer. They may be on his, I don’t know.
1. I don’t know if he has a WordPress.org or WordPress.com account.
2. I don’t know if he has a free or paid version. On the Dashboard I saw a Plugins setting, which I read is not included in the free edition. The website in question is http://www.prfp.info
He has put a lot of effort into the site, with the help of a web design “expert” has now left town.Any advice (or scoldings if need be) will be welcome, on at least being able to log in to admin.
Thanks,
Joe -
That’s not a WordPress.COM site. This is the WordPress.COM support forum. You need to post to the WordPress.ORG support forum for help with your site because it is not hosted by WordPress.COM.
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and have different logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support forums. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.
Resetting your WordPress.ORG password http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password -
Thank-you timethief.
I will do as you direct, and visit the WordPress.org forum. I have also asked the owner to fill out the lost password page in your last link.
