I am not able to connect to wordpress.com on my browser for the last week.
Is there something wrong with the site?

I have tried accessing my blog through a networked blog of my friend on facebook.
I can only view my home page, but no access to anything else.

    Can somebody help please!!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

These are the troubleshooting steps we take whenever any issues like this arise:
clearing your browser cache and cookies > http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
using the browser with all extensions or add-ons disabled
updating the browser to the latest stable version (not a buggy BETA browser version) http://browsehappy.com/
confirming third party cookies is enabled http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=61416
    confirming JavaScript is enabled http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
resetting your router and modem and rebooting your computer
then logging in using the secure https:// log-in see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
    trying another browser

If those do not work we need to know how are you connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com? The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers.

And exactly which browser and version of it are you using. If you don’t know click here to find out > http://whatsmyuseragent.com/

I use IE9 on my PC but that link you have provided says I used Mozilla..I don’t understand why.

I have cleard all cookies etc etc.

    JavaScript enabled.

I find that I only have issues with blogs ending with ‘wordpress.com’

It has only been a week. I thought it might be some site upgrade. But now I am beginning to worry. I can see my posts but I just can’t access them the usual way.

I can view the contents (at least the home page) via networkedblogs link through my friend’s blog. It allows me to type a NEW POST (the shortcut way) but does not publish.

I have tried logging on using another machine.

I have the same problem there too……cannot open any ‘wordpress.com’ sites

I am logged on here through networkedblogs.com link

Would really appreciate your help. At least if you can let us know that you are looking at the issue, that will keep me at peace for sometimes.

    Thx very muchly!

  • What country are you browsing from?

I am having the same problem, including the link reporting that I’m using Mozilla when I’m using IE9.

this just started last week – same as knot2share.

    Help!

  • What country are you browsing from?

    United States of America

I had difficulty logging on at this page — worked on the third try.

    IE9 says it cannot connect
Chrome says “No Data Received: Unable to load the webpage because the server sent no data”

    Hello Happiness Engineer

I am logging from Australia from my home.

Same error as Boblegge has mentioned.

I tried downloading Chrome yesterday and it still would not work.

Glad to know that I am not alone in this problem.

Appreciate your help and hope this can be solved soon.

    Thx!

  • I made a change to your account settings. Please try clearing your browser’s cookies and cache, then try logging in again.

Thank you for that quick response.

I did clear my cookies and cache yesterday on IE. Will try doing it again, once I get home (at work right now!).

I hope this thread will stay open, until I am able to check it from home to make sure all is well. I will report back here once I do that and you may close the thread after.

Thx again. I hope Boblegge’s problem is similar to mine.

    Dear Happy Engineer

I just returned home and tried logging. Unfortunately I have the same issue. No sites with wordpress.com in it, works. Internet Explorer loves to repeat – INTERNET EXPLORER CANNOT DISPLAY THIS WEBPAGE. I did clear cookies/temp internet files/cache, before I tried to log on.

Right now, I am accessing this link through networkedblogs.com (via a friend’s networkedblog on facebook). I hope I am making sense here.

Is there something that I should be doing??

    Awaiting your reply.

    Thx.

    It works for me.

IE — first attempt after clearing cache didn’t work and gave same old ‘cannot display the webpage’ so I moved on to Chrome

Chrome — worked the first time. So I logged out and tried it again — it worked so I did a new post, and that also worked. I logged out and went to Firefox.

Firefox — Worked the first time. I logged off and tried IE again.

IE — second attempt worked. So now I have logged in on all three browsers I use.

I hope knot2share’s starts to work.

    Thanks for your help.

  • knot2share, if you aren’t able to access anything on WordPress.com, I recommend trying to temporarily disable all firewalls and security applications. If that doesn’t help, try resetting your router or modem.

boblegge, yay! I’m glad that worked for you!

Hello Happiness Engineer (I want to be happy too!) and Boblegge,

Boblegge – Glad to hear that it worked for you and hope it continues. This only teaches me to value my blog more than ever. I love it but now I must begin to love even more!

Happiness Engineer/Macmanx – I have tried IE just now and still get the same issue. So I have downloaded Firefox and have made it my default browser without importing any cookies/passwords/history from IE. First attempt to log on and it works! I tried going to my blog home page and it works. I don’t want to log off for the fear of losing it all again!! I tried accessing the DASHBOARD and this is what it says –
    **********************************************************
    The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network
    connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

    *************************************************

I might try the thingy with firewalls, as you suggested. Not sure why I don’t have admin rights to my own site. Should I try changing the password??

PS: And now I am having problems submitting this post!!!

  • Yes, there is definitely a connection problem on your end.

Please try temporarily disabling all firewalls and security applications. If that doesn’t help, try resetting your router or modem.

I hope I can submit this post at least now!!

I forgot to mention – yesterday after you did some change to my account settings, I was at work and I tried logging once from the office. I worked and I could also go into my dashboard and approve a pending comment. I never tried it again though.

Home is a different scenario altogether. Let me try your options and I will get back to you again, Macmanx. Must be some new update from Norton 360 that might be blocking.

    Talk to you soon!

    excuse my grammar/typos!

    Hello Macmanx / Happiness Engineer

The problem with IE still exists.

I just tried again with Firefox. I could log on but my dashboard looked very basic with most of the menus invisible or not loaded completely. I clicked to view the home page and of course I ended up with the ‘Problem loading page’ error. Any further browsing was a waste of time.

I used my friend’s PC that uses Chrome. I could log on easily and even go to my dashboard! I posted a sample post and soon after I hit PUBLISH, I received an error 324 message ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE (from memory). After that I had to refresh several times, before I could log off.

Next, I tried to log on using another friend’s Apple Mac that runs Safari. I had no problem logging in, viewing my home page, going to dashboard, creating another test post and publishing. I had no errors. I tried only once here.

I seem to be agreeing with sjsampford’s response on the thread UNABLE TO LOGIN AND BROWSE DASHBOARD. This problem seems to be just associated with WordPress.com, as none of the other sites have problems with access. Also, it seems fine just temporarily and breaks down soon after. Until one week ago everything was fine. Is there a possibility that some updates or changes at your end are not compatible with some of the browsers??

  • Did you have any luck with disabling all firewalls and security applications or resetting your router or modem?
