Unable to log on

    Hello again!

We tried to access after disabling firewall and resetting the modem –

    *IE 9 did not work

*With Firefox (downloaded just two days ago), I could log on to wordpress.com, view my home page, but after a couple of refreshing of the page I was able to access my DASHBOARD which was not completely loaded. So could not create a test post.

We have a Windows 7 OS 32 bit with Norton 360 version 5.2.1.3 with latest updates for both Windows and Norton.

    Thx.

  • And it was Norton 360 that you disabled?

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry for taking time to get back!

Yes it was Norton 360 – the SMART FIREWALL OPTION under MANAGE FIREWALL section of NORTON 360 was disabled. The browser was opened only after disabling Norton firewall.

    Thx.

  • Would you be able to temporarily disable Norton 360 in its entirety?

    UPDATE AT THE MOMENT:

*With IE I can now bring up wordpress.com home page and that is all that I can do.

*With Firefox, I can access wordpress.com, my blog home page and nothing more.

Disabling Norton 360 in its entirety – I don’t see this as an option, because when I had tried to log on at my friend’s place who uses Chrome, they had Kaspersky installed and I could proceed to the point of creating a post but not publish, because I had an error.

However, I have tried disabling Norton in its entirety. IE still does not respond.

Could you please advise if those who have logged similar issues have had their problem solved or are they still struggling like my case??

I will have to just sit it out and wait for a while, I guess. Whatever the irregularities that exist, might settle down eventually!

  • Most folks in your case resolved the issue by switching to a different browser or adding their site to their security’s whitelist.

You’re the only one who has gotten this far in. Do you and your friend use the same ISP?

    Reporting from work:

I had to refresh a few times on IE before I could get access. It seems fine for the moment. Have not tried creating a test post. Will try to do so later in the day during my break.

Changing browser does not seem like an option. I realise it is not difficult but why should I be changing a browser instead of trying to fix the issue with the current one?? (if there is any!)

And I think both our friend and I use the same ISP. I am not sure but most likely yes.

    I will wait it out I think………..

forgot to add……..Thanks for helping me so far. You might see a reply on this thread one day (soon hopefully) advising that all is well!

  • Changing browser does not seem like an option. I realise it is not difficult but why should I be changing a browser instead of trying to fix the issue with the current one?? (if there is any!)

Well, it would help us rule-out a browser-specific issue and narrow down the rather long list of possible problems.

And I think both our friend and I use the same ISP. I am not sure but most likely yes.

By any chance, do you have access to a connection on a different ISP? Like, another friend’s house, work, café, etc?

You can also use a smartphone to tether; that will get you a different ISP.

    Hello Macmanx!

Yes of course! I can see your point. I never thought that from a troubleshooter’s point of view! Sorry! Let me try with another browser and will let you know.

Meanwhile, I just created another test post from work using IE. I am sure they are with another ISP (I think!) . All seems well!!

It will take me a while before I can find somebody with a different ISP to try and log on (outside work). So………. I will be back!!

    :-)

    Raincoaster – – RE: Smartphone

I love my PC/Laptops…I am not so tech savvy to try different devices. Although appreciate your thoughts. Technology intimidates me!

This may be helpful in the troubleshooting, and I just realized it this morning:

If I try to login using the login link I’ve used for a long time (http://boblegge.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?loggedout=true) IE9 says it cannot display the site.

However, if I login from http://www.wordpress.com, I can login successfully using IE9.

Knot2share, how are you attempting to login?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi Boblegge – I always sign-in through http://www.wordpress.com and not the login link.
Like you said, the login link sometimes does not work.

Hi Macmanx – Just recapping a bit here:

    HOMEFRONT

*My IE9 still adamant to give me access to any wordpress.com sites

*I have Norton 360 on my laptop

*Firefox allows me to access wordpress.com, log in and go to my blog’s home page. But the Dashboard loads incompletely and hence unable to do anything with it. But I can switch back to my home page to view only.

*As stated earlier, I had tried accessing wordpress.com using the machines of two of my friends (all of us with same ISP). One of them uses Chrome (with Kaspersky installed on their system) and the other Safari on their Apple Mac. I had no problems with Safari. With Chrome, I managed to write a new post but unable to publish as it came up with an error 324. Please refer to one of my earlier comments.

    So, my question is:
*Would you still like me to try with a different ISP and also a different browser?

    Thx!

    Hello Macmanx

I am now able to view any ‘wordpress.com’ sites using IE9! And ‘yay’ to that. It just began working after I cleared the temp files etc etc again this morning. Not sure why it never responded before. I do get the error from IE9 still, but if I refresh a few times, it seems to respond.

Anyway, I can now go to wordpress.com, I am able to login, I am able to go to my blog’s home page. My problem still exists with accessing DASHBOARD. The page loads without any of those formatting found on a normal DASHBOARD page of a blog. I have copy/pasted how my DASHBOARD looks on a Word file. I can send that to you if you wish. If I were to create a NEW POST, none of those editing tools appear on top of the writing box. All the TAGS, CATEGORIES etc etc has moved completely to the left and it looks like a basic version of DASHBOARD. I don’t know how to say this technically. But if you see the Word attachment, you will understand. Please let me know to which email id I can send this, if you wish to have a look.

My understanding is that, when I try to access the DASHBOARD, http:// becomes https:// , and that is precisely when this problem is rising. Is there something I need to do on IE9 regarding https links to allow full page upload??? This problem seems consistent with all my browsers – IE9, Firefox and Safari.

    Would appreciate your thoughts please.

    Thx.

  • At Users -> Personal Settings in your Dashboard, try unchecking “Always use HTTPS when visiting administration pages.”

    Hello again and again!!

I have done that as you instructed. IE9 still does not work. But Firefox seems fine for the moment.

I could never see the STATS BAR on the top of the homepage through IE9, but with Firefox it is fine. The STATS chart was not loading properly but through repeated refreshing of Firefox, it works.

DASHBOARD looks fine through Firefox but not IE9.

I still cannot use ADD A NEW POST option via the DASHBOARD. I have to refresh the page a few times and then the page loads fine but my cursor does not appear in the text box and none of the editing tools at the top of that text window appears! The title bar is fine though.

The QUICK POST option via the home page wordpress.com, does not work for me.

I have created a test post just now via the QuickPress option from my DASHBOARD and from home!!! Fingers crossed that it publishes..

    Your thoughts here please!

And, occasionally I do get this prompt from Firefox when I am about to post my reply here –
A window that says – Are you sure you want to leave this page. The date entered may not be saved! And two buttons LEAVE THIS PAGE and STAY ON THIS PAGE…..any idea what this is all about??

    Thx.

  • There is definitely a lot going wrong there, for example, something in your browser thinks it needs to leave a page to post a comment.

Unfortunately, everything is working properly on this end, so we really can’t help any further. If you have a friend who’s handy with computers, I recommend having them take a look at yours.

    Can someone help me?
I have a wordpress.org account in which I can’t log back in from after widget I downloaded. I can’t find any help whatsoever for wordpress.org
So now I registered a wrdpress.com to be able to ask this question.
Can someone please help me? I need to get back in my website.

  • We really can’t help with WordPress.org blogs.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.

WordPress.org has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress via their Codex and Support Forums.
